About our home

SORRY BUT ONLY AVAILABLE FOR RENTERS IN JULY AND AUGUST.
PLEASE NOTE that there is no central heating and no air conditioning. We are very comfortable with this arrangement both in winter and summer using the electric heaters and log burning stove and in the summer the ceiling fans are very efficient ensuring a cool night. The house will be equipped with linen, towels and beach towels and cleaned for your arrival and cleaned on your departure, for this there is a €150 charge for a points swap. If a reciprocal swap there is no charge. We ask that all rubbish is removed and the property has been treated with care during your stay.

This spacious, contemporary 4 bedroom, 4 bathroom villa is our much loved holiday home. As a holiday home, it is not necessary to have simultaneous swaps. We are most interested in booking overseas trips during 2021 but would also like to take some long weekend breaks.

Com Casa Nostra meaning home from home in Catalan is Ideally located, a safe 5-7 mins on foot to lovely Sa Riera beach (uphill on way back) or 3 mins by car to delightful Begur, a pedestrianised architectural gem, packed with authentic bars, restaurants, specialist shops and the ruins of the castle looking down on the Begur of today. There is a distinctly Cuban flavour to Begur due to the merchants returning from South America having made their fortunes and coming home to build wonderful stone homes with grand facades and iron staircases. Located on the Costa Brava, the most picturesque and unspoilt Mediterranean coastline, between Barcelona and France.

The house was designed and built in 2004 and is lovingly cared for by us.. We designed it with privacy in mind, each bedroom has its own en suite bathroom, one with bath and the other three with walk in showers. The downstairs bathrooms are smaller than upstairs but we felt it important to have your own private bathroom nevertheless. The bedrooms are all reasonably sized with full built in wardrobes, two bedside cabinets and three with sliding glass doors to the outside terraces. The bedrooms have ceiling fans to ensure a comfortable nights sleep.

The ground floor is open plan with a high vaulted ceiling and is a perfect area to gather for a pre dinner drink with plenty of space to prepare dinner. . It has a dining table for 6-8 but it is hardly used as the covered terrace has a dining table for 8-10 and I would expect this area to be used from May to October. The kitchen area is well equipped with cupboards under granite work surfaces and I believe has pretty much anything you will need during your stay. There are leather sofas, coffee table, sideboard and Bose speaker for iPhone/ipod music as well as Bluetooth speaker. We have a tv with dvd and there are a number of dvds in the house.

The house is built to take full advantage of the sun and keeps the sun on the terrace all day so perfect in the off season. We have eight sun loungers and the outside room is an idea hang out overlooking the pool to keep babies out of the sun (or grannies!) and to snooze with a book on one of the sofas. There is private parking for two cars. There is garden around the villa but due to the hillside location this is not accessible to guests and the gates to this area are locked. However it makes a lovely outlook and is like being in a tree house. Please note that the house is built on three levels, you enter on the ground floor and two bedrooms are upstairs and two, via a wide spiral staircase, are downstairs..

This is a quiet, peaceful area and is a perfect retreat for walking, golf, tennis, beach activities, eating and sampling the wonderful Emporda wine. Do ask any questions regarding the villa or location, we will be delighted to give more details.

Where is it?

Neighbourhood

This is an area of large individual detached houses on the side of a pine-clad valley and with the ruins of Begur's medieval castle watching over us and the coastline. Begur is the gem of our part of the Costa Brava, attracting visitors from Spain, its near neighbours and from the other side of the world. Do ask for advice on where to eat and what to visit - we've been coming here for 20 years and know it well. We love exploring new parts, including walking inland and visiting the different small beaches and towns all the way up to the French border. Our local beach, Sa Riera, is unspoilt and traffic free and best of all is walkable from the villa In under 10 minutes by steps or quiet hillside road (uphill on return) and is one of the most picturesque beaches on the Costa Brava. It is a horseshoe, sandy bay, ideal for swimming and snorkelling, with three or four restaurants and a well stocked supermarket (May-September). Other picturesque beaches with seafront eating include Playa de Pals (walkable from Sa Riera), Aigua Blava, Sa Tuna under 10 mins by car and 20 mins to Calella de Palafrugell, Llafranc and Tamariu.

Buzzy restaurants
Begur has many restaurants of varying types but all with a local flavour. This is not an area for fast food outlets. Also many medieval villages inland with wonderful stone buildings housing restaurants with low ceilings and great food.
Cool bars
Begur has several sophisticated bars, which will provide late night entertainment but it is not an area with many clubs.
Cozy cafés
A number of cafes to sit around the square and watch the world go by.
Retail therapy
Begur has some independent shops for jewellery and clothes as does nearby Pals. If you would like a days shopping with more of a designer feel then Playa d'aro has a wide range of high street names.
Bit of culture
Figueras - Dali museum, 50 mins. The gothic cathedral in Gerona as well as the Jewish quarter are well worth a trip.
Spot of exercise
A wonderful area for walking at all levels. There are some wonderful beachside walks at Pals and beyond to the rice fields as well as the well signed Catalan coastal walks. Of course the foothills of the Pyranees are a short drive for more strenuous hiking. The area is also renowned for its championship golf courses at Pals and Girona. There are also tennis courts and kayaking available.
Day tripping
Girona - 30 minutes. A lively, sophisticated city with tapas bars, museums, cathedral. Barcelona, of course, well known for its culture and nightlife is just 90 minutes by car or 38 minutes from Girona station on the TGV.
