About our home

Our house is located in the beautiful Genal valley, not far from Ronda (30 kms) or the Mediterranean (45 kms). It was built in 2008, though we kept the traditional "pueblo blanco" architecture and decoration. We used traditional materials (wood, clay tiles and flooring) and recycled elements such as a mill door which dates back to the beginning of the 20th century. There are also country life articles that belonged to our families and which are very dear to us. So when you enter the house it is as if you were entering a genuine 19th-20th century house. However, the house is equipped with everything you may need in order to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable: washing machine, dishwasher, TV with DVD player, tennis table... A cleaning service can be arranged if needed.
There are four bedrooms, two complete bathrooms and a toilet. The front door of the house faces Benarraba's main square (plaza), and the back door leads to a street which is 7 metres lower, so the basement has a big window which gives views to the mountains.
The house also has a garage, so parking your car won't be a problem.
Benarrabá is located in the heart of the Serranía de Ronda, about 30 km from Ronda and a 50 minute's drive from the beach of Sabinilla, on the Mediterranean Sea. It was an area where 'bandoleros' used to roam in the past. It still has the typical shape of an Arab village, with narrow twisting streets decorated with flowers and plants. Our house is right in the main square. There's a hotel with a good restaurant, a well-cared-for public swimming pool and many other bars where you can try the typical "tapas" of the area.
There are about 500 inhabitants, which makes it a very quiet, relaxing place, where you can feel the authentic atmosphere of a typical "pueblo blanco". There are plenty of places to hike amidst amazing cork oaks and chestnut tree forests. It isn't hard to imagine a 'bandolero' hiding in the wild. You can have a refreshing bath in the Genal River, which runs clean and cold during the summer, or use the public swimming pool in the village. Málaga or Jerez take two hours to reach, Algeciras and Gibraltar one hour. Ronda, where Ernest Hemingway, Orson Welles or Ava Gardner used to spend long periods of time, is 30 minutes away. And there are many other typical villages easily reached, some of them even on foot! You can even consider paying a short trip to the northern part of Morocco. Ferries depart daily from Algeciras.
