About our home

Great old Spanish house (completely renovated) in the middle of a small fisherman's village, with just about the best climate in the world for sunseakers. No rain, not hot, not cold, all year round. The house is special with high cealings, open in the center, and a roof terrace of about 120 sqm, where half of it is covered - overlooking the village, the harbour, the ocean and the mountains. It has a small patio as entrance with an avocado tree and lots of flowers. The house has 2 bedrooms with double beds, 2 bedrooms with 2 single beeds in each room and a double bed on the rooftop under the covered part, where we normaly sleep. Furthermore a big livingroom downstairs. We have wifi with 2 routers so you have full coverage both downstairs and upstairs on the terrace. We have 32" cabel TV.
The house itself is different as it is open in the middle - making it airy and nice - and at the same time it has shutters - we are in Spain.
We have brought furniture and paintings from Denmark - which add a lot of personality to the house.
On the rooftop - half is covered - and half is uncovered - including a big flowerbox in the length of the house - stunning views and sunshine.
The covered part has a lovely bathroom - open and yet private - with wooden shutters - skylight - and double shower, so you can take you wife/husband showering?
And we also put in a kitchen on the rooftop, so you can do the cooking in the fresh ocean air.
Now all you need up there is a good double bed - which you also find there - in the middle of it all - yet having curtains to give you privacy when you need it - and open airy space during day.

Yes we love our rooftop and we can almost live just there - forgetting about the "downstairs" if only the diswasher and the washing machine was on the rooftop?

A couple that stayed in our house wrote:
Dear Hanne, dear Jesper,
now, one day before christmas I´m sitting in the office and the phone doesn´t ring and most things I had to do are done. The gifts for all are prepared and the daily rush is over, so I can enjoy to remember the days in Playa de Santiago. La Banda Nr. 6 gave us an impression of coming home. During this second stay we realized even more than the first time, how thoughtfully you renovated this house, how cautiously you considered the materials of the natural environment but also so many, many aspects providing everyday comfort. During the first stay and now again your house gave us a sense of delight and security.
Therefore I would like to thank you so much, that you permitted us to stay there.
All the best wishes for Christmas and a Happy New Year!

More about us

  1. We come from Denmark - Hanne and Jesper - where we lived until December 2007. We did run our own company there - but managed to sell it back in 2005 - giving us a lot more room for manouvering - as we no more need to be in the office ready to do the daily bussiness. We are still active but can manage our work mainly just by getting on the interned. We are 62 and 53 years old.
We moved to La Gomera to try something completely different - and getting into a whole new environment - and it is a big change coming from the efficient Denmark where you can get everything done in minutes if not days - to this sleepy island - where getting a telephoneline may take you months - if you can get it at alle.
We love the change and find that we can relax here, and do all the things we love doing - such as running, swimming, hiking, going on a biking trip or relaxing. Its all here under the blue sky - and where the sun shines on you almost every day.
We are non smokers - and we look after our house so it is interesting - with flowers and paintings - and funny solutions such as double showers and semi open bathroom.
We are easy going folks, quiet, who love getting around.
We love traveling - spent 10 weeks in Peru, seeing the first sun of the year 2012 rising over Machupicchu in Peru.
In 2013 we had a great exchange in Chicago - and we moved to Latvia - wauw, that was different moving from Spain to Latvia. From the nice and warm climate to a climate where you with a bit of luck get real winter as well as summer. We had the fantastic luck of moving beginning of March and all of March was -10 to -15 degrees during day - blue skies and glittering snow - and no wind - wow that was pretty.
The winter of 13/14 we spent in USA travelling around.
The winter of 14/15 we spent in Central America
The winter of 15/16 we spent in Southeast Asia
the winter of 16/17 we spent in Ecuador and Columbia
This winter we are spending on the Canary Islands :-)

We are aiming at travelling 3 month every winter - so give us a great offer during winter and we might have an exchange with you.
Next? Indonesia, USA, South America or New Zealand - or a great week or 2 in between in your paradise.
Looking forward to hearing form you.

We have done several exchanges, 2 in Australia, 1 in Costa Rica and 1 in USA, and loved them all - and looking forward to the next -
Surprise us - looking forward to seeing you - and taking care of your house as if it was our own.

Where is it?

Situated on La Gomera, the second smallest of the Canary Islands, a non-touristed place, in the middle of a small town, yet with a direct boat and airport connection to Tenerife. The town is nice, quiet and picturesque, yet offers a lot of places to eat, if you don't prefer to do your own cooking. La Gomera has not had vulcanic activities for 2 million years, and therefore the gorges are cut very deep and magnificent. It has a national park containing the only rainforest in Europa. The perfect place to hike and relax. We also have 2 mountainbikes, you can use to get around. The island is hilly so you can work up some sweat. You can sign up for hiking tours - or do it alone. Twice a week there are dolphin/whale watching trips, and you can go scubadiving from hotel Tecina. La Gomera is small yet it has a variety that you would spend a long time and a long distance to find. As we say - you see bigger differences just touring this small island than you normaly do touring Europe from Denmark to Portugal. To the south (where we have our house) the climate is dry and very sunny - so expect blue skyes and for La gomera calm sea. To the north you find a whole different climate - at times up to 10 degrees cooler, wetter, greener, and a rather strong sea. On top of the island - we have Alte Garajonay - some 1487 mtr. From here you can be lucky to see Tenerife, Grand Canaria, La Palma and El Hierro on a clear day. The peak is situated in the rain forrest.
On a hot and sunny day you can make a trip to the park and cool down - as you will likely find it cool and pleasent if not cold. We have experienced temperature at around 6 - 8 degrees in the park while some 25 degrees back home in our house near the beach. Allthough the island is wery small - dont try to make the around the island in one day, as the roads are winding - and are going to take you up and down all the time - as the island is formed by vulcanic activity some 2 millions years ago - and since then the weather has cut the landscape into high and sharp ridges - and deep vallies - making a trip from Playa Santiago to San Sebastian - both port towns - a trip on some 30 km, taking you from sea level up to around 1000 meters and than back down to sea level.
We strongly recomend having a car here - and we are pleased to swap our car with you.
