“Hanne and Jesper's home on La Gomera is exactly as they describe, as is the island, a hiker's/walker's paradise. My favourite part of the house was, of course, the roof terrace with it's ocean view and evening breeze and, as dusk fell, the twinkling lights of the houses on the hillside opposite. This is the perfect place to unwind, enjoy an abundance of sunshine, explore spectacular scenery...and get a chance to improve Spanish language skills. In Playa de Santiago, good restaurants abound and there is also a wonderful little bakery that people frequent daily to buy freshly baked bread and delicious pastries. Note: the island is easily accessible in a 50 minute, and fun, ferry-ride from Tenerife, an island very different from La Gomera but which, I found, is also worth exploring. Thank you Hanne and Jesper for a delightful experience !!”

Where is it?
Situated on La Gomera, the second smallest of the Canary Islands, a non-touristed place, in the middle of a small town, yet with a direct boat and airport connection to Tenerife. The town is nice, quiet and picturesque, yet offers a lot of places to eat, if you don't prefer to do your own cooking. La Gomera has not had vulcanic activities for 2 million years, and therefore the gorges are cut very deep and magnificent. It has a national park containing the only rainforest in Europa. The perfect place to hike and relax. We also have 2 mountainbikes, you can use to get around. The island is hilly so you can work up some sweat. You can sign up for hiking tours - or do it alone. Twice a week there are dolphin/whale watching trips, and you can go scubadiving from hotel Tecina. La Gomera is small yet it has a variety that you would spend a long time and a long distance to find. As we say - you see bigger differences just touring this small island than you normaly do touring Europe from Denmark to Portugal. To the south (where we have our house) the climate is dry and very sunny - so expect blue skyes and for La gomera calm sea. To the north you find a whole different climate - at times up to 10 degrees cooler, wetter, greener, and a rather strong sea. On top of the island - we have Alte Garajonay - some 1487 mtr. From here you can be lucky to see Tenerife, Grand Canaria, La Palma and El Hierro on a clear day. The peak is situated in the rain forrest.
On a hot and sunny day you can make a trip to the park and cool down - as you will likely find it cool and pleasent if not cold. We have experienced temperature at around 6 - 8 degrees in the park while some 25 degrees back home in our house near the beach. Allthough the island is wery small - dont try to make the around the island in one day, as the roads are winding - and are going to take you up and down all the time - as the island is formed by vulcanic activity some 2 millions years ago - and since then the weather has cut the landscape into high and sharp ridges - and deep vallies - making a trip from Playa Santiago to San Sebastian - both port towns - a trip on some 30 km, taking you from sea level up to around 1000 meters and than back down to sea level.
We strongly recomend having a car here - and we are pleased to swap our car with you.
