Our holiday home in Southern Spain is a lovely retreat for people wanting to explore the region. 1 hour's drive from Malaga, 3 hours from Granada. The house is in the foothills of the Sierra Almijara just off the mountain road which leads from the coast to Competa. It's 3kms (5 mins drive) from Competa and 15kms from the Mediterranean (25 minutes drive).
The two bedroom villa sits on half an acre of hillside facing south east and has marvellous views of the surrounding countryside and distant views of the sea. The house is ideal for those who want a quiet and relaxing place to stay and are happier with the simpler lifestyle. It is perfect for two or four people.
The two bedrooms each have a fitted wardrobe and chest of drawers. The double bedroom faces east and gets the early morning sun. The twin bedded room faces north and is shady and cool.
The spacious living room has double wooden doors leading to the terrace and has a wood burning fire, dark wood dining table and six chairs and a sofa.
Divided from the living room by a tiled breakfast bar is the kitchen with double sink, cooker, fridge / freezer, toaster and water heater.
The bathroom is fully tiled and has a bath (short) with shower attachment, bidet, hand basin and lavatory.
The large arched terrace looks south / south east towards the sea and has beautiful views.
The house is simple and beautiful. The floors are laid with terracotta tiles and there are dark wooden beams on the high ceilings. There is no television. There are books, games and a radio / CD player.
The house is just off a good, if winding, mountain road. There is a short rough track to drive down to reach the parking space beside the house (room for 2/3 cars). A smaller car is easier to manoeuvre on the tracks and on the mountain roads. There is some public transport to Competa (buses twice a day to and from Malaga) and there are taxis available from Competa and Torrox. However a car would be desirable to fully enjoy the surrounding area. It takes about 30 minutes to walk to Competa.
Competa is a pretty “pueblo blanco” built on a hillside with a small weekly market, banks, bars, restaurants and hotels as well as bakeries, small supermarkets and hardware stores. It has a large main square with a lovely 17th century church. It is the largest mountain village in the area and services many of the outlying houses and farms.
