“Abbiamo trascorso una settimana di vacanza nei Paesi Baschi che sono stupendi. Possiamo dire che lo scambio con Carol e Paxi è stato perfetto. La location è in un bel quartiere , tranquillo e vicino al centro di San Sebastian. Collegamenti perfetti con bus. La casa è davvero bella, molto pulita e con tutti i comfort. Sicuramente ancora migliore rispetto alla presentazione sul sito. Ci siamo stati davvero bene come a casa nostra. Non c\'è altro da aggiungere se non che Carol e Paxi sono stati a casa nostra in Toscana e sono una famiglia con cui ci piacerebbe avere ancora occasione di scambio. San Sebastian, la casa , Carol e Paxi sono quindi per noi assolutamente da raccomandare. Resterete contenti. We spent a week in the wonderful Basque Countries. We can say that the exchange with Carol and Paxi was simply perfect. The location is in a nice neighborhood, quiet and close to downtown San Sebastian. Perfect bus connections. The house is really nice, very clean and with all the amenities. Even better than the presentation on the website. We really enjoyed our stay. There is nothing to add except that Carol and Paxi have been at our home in Tuscany and are a family with whom we would still like to have new opportunities to exchange our house. San Sebastian, the home , Carol and Paxi are therefore absolutely strongly recommended by us. You will be happy.”

About our home
20-year old apartment in excellent condition. 2 bedrooms with double beds (1.35m width); 1 office with 1-person futon-type sofa bed. High-speed internet, wifi & free landline phone calls within Spain. New, fully-equipped kitchen, newly remodeled bathroom and spacious living room. Lots of natural light. Neighbours on all sides (good people). Our building is on a hill, about a 35-minute walk from the sea, but with a bus stop just a few steps away.
Google maps makes it look like there's a major motorway next door. That is NOT the case!

Carol's reviews
As a host (2)“We spent 2 weeks in the home of Carol in San Sebastian, everything was perfect. The apartment was spacious, quiet and with all kinds of comfort. It is pretty near the center and the beaches. It was great to experience San Sebastian and Bilbao. The small restaurants in San Sebastian are great and it was really a treat walking from restaurant to restaurant eating nice food and drinking good wine. Carol was great in telling us about places, restaurants and other great stuff so we were not totally lost in an unknown city/area.”

I'm Carol, a 66-year-old freelance translator and tour guide, born in California and living in San Sebastian since 1987. My husband, Patxi, is a computer nerd employed by the Basque department of statistics. We're interested in exchanges in Europe and elsewhere. We love both outdoors and city stuff: architecture, museums, food... We're easy-going and love meeting people (although my husband does better in Spanish than English). We've had several very successful house exchanges over the years including Amsterdam, London, Nantes, Stockholm, Ottawa, Copenhagen, Rome, and various cities in Spain - and hope to have many more.

Neighbourhood
Our apartment sits on a hill in the neighborhood of Egia in the seaside city of Donostia-San Sebastian in the Basque region of Spain. 20 to 30-minute walk (downhill) to beaches and center. Fabulous food, theater, cinema, Jazz Festival in July (http://www.jazzaldia.com), International Film Festival in Sept (http://www.sansebastianfestival.com).
Donostia is now one of the world's most highly regarded culinary meccas. Pintxo (tapa) bars abound, as do all manner of restaurants.
Great walking city, very lively old town. 20 kms from French border on the Bay of Biscay; 80 kms from Bilbao & the Guggenheim Museum (among many other wonderful things in Bilbao). Pyrenees mountains are also nearby. The northern (coastal) branch of the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route (Way of St James) runs through San Sebastian.
In addition to my own pictures posted here, you'll find countless pics on the Internet of San Sebastian, Bilbao, and the Basque Country.
