About our home

In the greenest region of Andalucia, our home is a comfortable and newly restored edge of village house overlooking stunning countryside including mountains and trees. It's situated on a peaceful lane at the top of the village with superb country walks starting right outside the front door. It's light, airy and (we think) gorgeous! with light painted beams throughout and terracotta floors. We have a spacious living room and dining area which seats six with french windows leading to the 50 sq m patio filled with flowers, herbs and a plum tree. Off the living room is a refitted kitchen with solid chestnut units and granite worktops. There are three double bedrooms and an additional sitting area upstairs with small balcony. Some parts of the house we believe date back approximately 300 years, some parts are newer. Nearby is our secluded orchard (just under an acre) with fruit trees including figs pears, apples etc. It's two minutes walk from the house and utterly tranquil, with lovely views: perfect for picnics or a quiet read.

More about us

  1. We are Dinah and Richard, both in our late fifties. We have three grown up children in the UK and one granddaughter. Richard was a management consultant and still retains an interest in his company. Dinah is an artist, broadcaster and teacher attempting now to write her first novel. We both love living in this timeless region of Spain and spend our time walking, gardening, reading and generally enjoying the laid back Southern Spanish lifestyle. We'd love to exchange in Cheltenham, or relatively nearby, in order to see a little more of our families who live in that area and, in particular, to see more of our baby granddaughter.

Where is it?

Our village is designated of special historical and artistic interest and is situated in the heart of the Natural Park of Aracena. It's a well preserved medieval white village in the Sierra de Aracena, about an hour or so north west of Seville and close to Portugal. Many consider this region to be the Tuscany of Southern Spain. Its gentle mountains are forested and the region is perfect for comfortable walking as cobbled pathways criss-cross the area joining one village to another. There are lakes, ancient castles and churches and we are well placed to visit all the glorious cities of Andalucia such as Seville, Cadiz and Cordoba, as well as the relatively unspoilt coast of the Costa de la Luz (about 2 hours away). This is authentic Spain and Aracena, the main town of our area is 15 minutes drive away. It's a lively cosmopolitan area with restaurants and bars, a theatre, organic food shop and beautiful plaza. We have the best of all worlds here, absolute peace when you want it, heart soaring scenery and a wealth of activities a little further afield. Our small village has a swimming pool, a lovely tree lined square with two small bars and the village church boasts one of the remaining original baroque organs in Spain (recently restored but unmodified from original specification). From time to time we have organ recitals which attract musicians worldwide. Our nearest airport is Seville but Faro, Jerez and Malaga are all accessible.
