About our home

Our house was completed about 8 years ago and is light and modern, fully equipped with all mod cons though it has a distinct Moorish flavour.

More about us

  1. We're a semi-retired Anglo-Dutch couple still translating the odd book and organising fun events at a very special site in Devon

  2. We both translate, mainly books related to the arts and human rights.

  3. We enjoy travel with friends, our 4 grown up children grandchildren, or on our own and enjoy meeting people from all sorts of different worlds. I love walking, swimming, skiing, as well as music, theatre and the arts in general. And reading, often literature written in the countries we are visiting.

Where is it?

Chite is a small village about 20 minutes from Granada, half an hour from the sea and 45 minutes from the ski resort in the Sierra Nevada. There is wonderful walking and hiking through the orange and lemon groves and in the Alpujarra hills.

Buzzy restaurants
There are lots of simple and upmarket restaurants in the surrounding villages, great fish restaurants on the coast and an amazing choice in Granada. The menu del dia is widely available at lunchtimes , often for as little as 10 euros for 3 courses, including a drink.
Cool bars
The village bars vie with each other to provide the best free tapas with each drink.
Cozy cafés
Spanish life wouldn't be the same without its vibrant cafe life
Retail therapy
The white villages in the Alpujarra are awash with local crafts, from pottery to rugs to leatherwork, and there are lots of interesting shops in Granada, including the huge variety of Moorish goods from the traditional Albaicin area.
Bit of culture
You can't miss the Alhambra though it's essential to book in advance , but there are so many other remains of Moorish culture to explore.
Walks in the park
Walks everywhere, well signposted and through the orange groves, along the coast, in the hills, around the lake, as well as in the park.
Spot of exercise
Swimming, kayaking, skiing, hiking, canyoning. And then relaing by the pool.
Day tripping
It's possible to go further afield, beyong Granada to Cordoba and Malaga, as well as do day trips to the white villages in the Alpujarra, visit the Renaissance town of Ubeda, the town on the edge of the gorge at Alhama and so many more undiscovered Spanish treasures.
