Neighbourhood

Our apartment is in the Retiro neighborhood. Its name comes from the huge and beautiful public park called El Parque del Buen Retiro, Retiro is the laid back and less posh sister neighbourhood of Salamanca. The Retiro neighbourhood lies just South of Salamanca and East of the Retiro park
Life in the Retiro neighbourhood is traditional, laid-back and still connected to the centre. I really recommend to anyone who wants to enjoy Madrid, be right in the middle of things, live in an middle/upper-class neighbourhood, and still be able to escape from the city stress by going to the park anytime they want. It’s also a great neighbourhood for a family with kids.

Buzzy restaurants
El Caldero, La Cevicucheria, El Segoviano (really typical spaish), La Huerta de casa Ricardo, all the street of Doctor Castelo.
Cool bars
Rooftop of Only You hotel, La NEomudejar art gallery and bar, Santos.
Cozy cafés
La libre, Nubel in Reina SOfia, Dulzor del Templo
Retail therapy
Atocha Station, Goya Steet.
Bit of culture
Walking distance is La Neomudejar, only 2 minutes walk. Also Museo de Antropología in Atocha is 10 minutes walk and Reina Sofía is 14 minutes walk. Thyssen and Prado are 20 minutes walk.
Walks in the park
Retiro Park just 7 minutes walk (entrance of Mariano de Cavia) . THe Palacio of Crystal and the Lake are stunning.
Spot of exercise
If you have Gymforless app there a 4 gyms around to get in to. Best is to go to the park where there is also yoga and crossfit classes you can join throuh meetup or gymforless.
Day tripping
Atocha station is just a short walk. From there, you can get trains to allSpain but also to a day trip to Valencia (1.5 hours) or in the province of Madrid Sierra de Guadarrama, El Escorial, Aranjuez, Chinchón are worthy a visit.
