Our beautiful Spanish townhome was completely refurbished in 2005. It's a modern interior, 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom house. There is a large open plan lounge, kitchen and diner with delightful internal patio off the kitchen . The house is made for Andalucian summers - all the tile helps keep it very cool!. The marble staircase leads to the first floor with a tradtional rustic wall much like the nearby castle walls! On this floor there are two bedrooms (each room has a double bed) and one bathroom (shower over bath), with further shower room on the grounds floor off the main living area. Up more steps to a sunroom, which leads out on to the most fantastic terrace, with great views out to the surrounding countryside. With all the steps and hard tiles, it isn't a great house for very young children or folks with unsure footing.
Our home sits at the top of the old town in Olvera, Queen of the Pueblo Blancos (White Villages). Its a very quiet part of town, as it is predominantly pedestrianised. The 12th century Moorish castle and the museum are just steps away from our front door.
There are 2 medium-sized grocery stores in town, as well as small independent shops and fruit/veg shops. At the Saturday market you can find everything from jeans and trainers to dried fruit and nuts. There are said to be 99 tapas bars in the town - we haven't tried them all, but the ones close to the house serve very nice tapas, inexpensive drinks, free WiFi and gorgeous views.
This is a perfect location for exploring the beauty of Andalucia. Olvera is centrally located, approximately 1 hour from Seville or Malaga, or about 1.5 hours to Cordoba or Granada and the Alhambra. The Via Verde (a walking and cycling path, constructed on a former rail line) goes through the town. In addition, there are riding stables nearby, excellent birdwatching from the terrace, and paragliding is very popular too!
