About our home

Our town house is approx 11 years old, situated on the outskirts of a typical small Spanish town called Algorfa on the banks of the river Segura.

It has 2 double bedrooms one with a king size bed & one double bed. There is air-con in one bedroom and in the living area downstairs. There is a bathroom/toilet upstairs and a loo also downstairs. The kitchen is compact but well equipped.

There are terraces at the front & rear of the house , another terrace off the bedroom , and a spiral staircase off the bedroom onto the spacious roof terrace.

There is a small well equipped American style kitchen , and a large garage which houses a second fridge/freezer , washing machine & a large selection of easy reading fiction books .

The urbanisation has a shared pool within a gated community.

An English couple are our key -holders & will clean and do laundry of towels/ sheets, making up of beds , if necessary .They charge approx 55 euros for this service which we would expect our exchange guests to cover .

A little bit about the area -

Algorfa lies on the banks on the River Segura , amongst lush and fertile countryside with a beautiful mountainous backdrop and wonderful panoramic views to the coast.

It is one of Vega Baja’s citrus farming villages. The village is a short drive from the wonderful beaches of the Costa Blanca (south) , and is approximately a 30 minute drive from Alicante or Murcia airports.

The area is relaxed, friendly with a typically laid-back Spanish way of life. In Algorfa you are close to fabulous blue flag beaches and nature reserves. Yet just a 20 minute drive away you have the facilities and expat residents of Torrevieja.

Just outside Algorfa is an unusual neo-gothic church that was built at the beginning of the nineteenth century and is definitely worth a visit.

Algorfa holds a market on Sundays. Local shops provide daily needs and further shopping is available in nearby Torrevieja and Orihuela.

Nearby is La Pedrera, a recreation area with mountain bike trails, walking trails together with barbecue and camping areas.

There is a train station approx 10 minutes drive away with free parking, where you can catch a train to Alicante or Cartagena . Return cost on the train to

Alicante cost less than 8 euros for both of us.

The wonderful blue flag beaches of Santa Pola and Torrevieja are just 15 minutes drive from Algorfa. Boat trips are also available from nearby Santa Pola.

Car Hire

Car hire is recommended , we use a company called Easy Option car hire as they don't charge for petrol, you return the car with the same amount of petrol in it as you had when you received the car. They also meet you at the airport so you don't have to stand in annoying queues !

La Finca Algorfa Golf Club, located just outside of the village, is an excellent challenge. The facilities here are top notch, with a very smart clubhouse and restaurant.

Algorfa enjoys a warm climate throughout the year and is thought to be extremely beneficial for rheumatism/arthritis sufferers because it has it's own micro climate (due to its situation between salt lakes).
