This is a beautiful house full of Sri Lankan style antiques set in a big garden and attached to Calamansi Cove Villas hotel - hence a share of all those...
Where is it?
Our home has direct access to a very quiet, sandy beach - just out the gate from our beach front garden! There are no private beaches in Sri Lanka, so this is about as private as it gets with neither cafés, shops nor vendors. Just a few tourists from neighbouring properties and the occasional locals out for a stroll or a dip (during the season) will be the only people you will see on the beach.
The closest town, Ambalangoda, is just 5 minutes by tuk-tuk. Ambalangoda is the home of mask making and also well known for it's numerous antique shops where you can spend a good number of hours looking for bargains. This busy town has a fisheries harbour, numerous shops and 3 smallish supermarkets.
Hikkaduwa which is just 15 minutes by road, has an abundance of cafés, bars and restaurants. This is also the place for water sports. For water-skiing you can go to Bentota, about 40 minutes north on the Galle Road.
Other places to visit are of course the Dutch Fort in Galle, a cinnamon plantation, a tea plantation, a wonderful specimen of a rain forest in Kanneliya, moonstone mines, and in season, whale watching from Mirissa.
You will be spoilt for choice if your interest is in Buddhist temples! You can even visit one that occupies its own island on a lake when you take a river boat cruise.
