“We stayed at Jungle Tide in February 2020 and we are still closing our eyes and remembering the beautiful views and serenity of this lovely swap! First of all, I would like to highlight the kindness and generosity of Sally and Jerry. They are amazing hosts and will do everything to make sure you are happy with your stay. They will make sure all meals and activities you would like to do are organised and Rani (their help) cooked some delicious dishes! From Sri-Lankan typical curries, coconut pancakes, Sally's typical English Roast and tasty puddings to Jerry's lovely barbecues! Though it is about 30 mns from Kandy town, we thoroughly enjoyed our Tuk Tuk ride down the hill with the children. Jungle Tide was perfect to come out of the busy town and chill on the wrapped around terrace, reading a book, looking at birds, playing board games. On the BBQ night, we also saw some magical fireflies! Thank you Sally and Jerry!”

“Sri Lanka and Jungle Tide in particular stole our hearts. Sally and Jerry were wonderful, informative and brilliant company. The whole area was a real highlight of our month trip in Sri lanka. Oh and the most amazing food :-) Don't hesitate if offered a swap to this gem of a place. We truly hope to return one day. Jo, Kris, Archie, Amelia and Poppy x ”
“Had a great week in Candy! Thanks”
“Wonderful setting, friendly staff a great place to relax , a bit too far from Kandi to be used as a base to explore other parts of the island.”
“We spent five fabulous days staying at Jungle Tkde along with our daughter, son in law and two grandchildren who had travelled from Kolkata for a much needed break. Sally and Jerry were excellent hosts - they arranged our transport from the beach and made us very welcome throughout our stay. Jungle Tide is just 30 minutes from Kandy on a well paved road that winds up from the city, past tiny villages and through tea plantations. The last 800 metre stretch to the house is rough but not a problem at all. It is frequently negotiated by various wehicles including tuk tuks. Because there were six of us us, we hired Kenny and his van to take us into Kandy one day, visiting the excellent Tea Museum en route and the stunning Botanical Gardens in the afternoon. Another day our daughter and husband went by tuk tuk to Kandy for a memorable lunch at The Empire Cafe. Because Jungle Tide operates primarily as a guest house, Sally offered us bed and breakfast as part points swap, part payment which suited us well. A highlight was chatting with Sally and Jerry over delicious dinners and hearing about Sally’s early years living in Sri Lanka and the trials and tribulations of the development of Jungle Tide many years later. We had some amazing Sri Lankan dishes at breakfast along with more conventional options. We all appreciated Rani’s cooking including the children who asked for seconds, thirds... The kitchen was available for us to prepare a modest lunch for ourselves. Tea, coffee and biscuits were always available. We spent a lot of time sitting on the verandah outside our comfortable rooms enjoying the serenity, the view, sometimes monkeys in the trees. We all swam in the pool at least once a day and were guided by Toffee and Suki on a daily walk around the nearest village. Surprisingly, most of the tiny tracks are on Google Maps so we never got lost. We tried to catch the bakery open in the morning but didn’t get there early enough - needed to be there at 6am but bed was too cosy! Sally and Jerry and Jungle Tide will always hold a special place in our holiday memories. ”
“Jungletide is a beautiful house swap - peacefully located with great views. I loved sitting on the verandha reading and also the swimming pool. There are lovely walks around the area and getting in to Kandy can easily be done either by bus or by Taxi. Communication with Sally was clear and helpful. I stayed in an ensuite guest room and had the luxury of enjoying the delicious food. Sally has a great team that supports her. Bec & Mitch were delighful hosts and helped to make my stay all the more enjoyable.”
“We had a great stay with Sally & Jerry in Kandy Sri Lanka. They arranged our tour Guides Kenny & Ram , & as per Sally's recommendation we found them outstanding. The premises were spacious, clean & lovely rural views. Managers Mitch & Beck were friendly & helpful & provided well for all 4 of us. Thank you very much for the stay in what is a beautiful area in a beautiful country Warm Regards, Laurie.”
“We have to echo the previous reviews. We spent the first of our two weeks in Sri Lanka at Jungle Tide and as we left to embark on week 2 (our amazing family adventure around the south of the island), we were just so sad to be leaving. It was very much our highlight. We felt utterly at home ...and our children (9 and 5) couldn't be happier with the pool, gardens, chickens and the lovely placid dogs. Jerry and Sally were wonderful company and equally wonderful cooks. We enjoyed a lovely mix of traditional British fare and delicious Sri Lankan cuisine (cooked by Rani). Highlights included morning walks (back in time) to the local bakery and catching the local bus into Kandy (and getting a Tuk Tuk back up the mountain). We had a couple of great day trips around Kandy but were happiest at Jungle Tide.”
“We had a lovely holiday at Jungle Tide. The house has a stunning location, the comfortable en suite bedrooms open onto a lovely veranda and English style lawn, and the accompanying views of the valley and distant mountains are spectacular. We travelled up with some friends from Colombo, to escape the infernal April heat on the coast. The trip was straightforward: an easy 3 hour train ride from Colombo Fort to Kandy (with A/C in first class), then Sally sent her driver to pick us up from Kandy station, about a 40min drive from the house. Jungle Tide is in the middle of a pretty tea plantation, and the high altitude means that the climate is wonderfully fresh and the air is clean and crisp. The children in our party (aged 3 and 4) immediately loved the place, and spent hours running around the lawn, chasing the two friendly dogs, Sukie and Toffie, and exploring the different flowers and plants, while the parents watched contentedly from the veranda, sipping tea. We enjoyed easy and interesting walks through the tea plantation, and nice half day trips into Kandy to see the botanical gardens and the royal forest. Hearty, home cooked evening meals, with Sally whipping up outrageous English desserts, completed our stay. ”
“Our time at Sally's house was so wonderful! We were hosted by Sally and her husband in a Bed & Breakfast style arrangement. The house is gorgeous, the food amazing, the property and surroundings are gorgeous. A tuk-tuk can take you into town and back for about $10 if I remember correctly. At the end of a day in the city of Kandy is was so lovely to come home to this retreat in the middle of the tea plantations where the air is cooler thanks to the hills and cool down in the pool. Great times, amazing memories! Thank you Sally! ”
“Our stay at Jungletide was the highlight of our tour of Sri Lanka. Communication with Sally prior to the trip was excellent and she kindly offered to take a look at our itinerary beforehand and gave us a few pointers. Whilst at Jungletide we were well looked after by Martin the housekeeper and Rani the cook, as Sally and Jerry were away. We found the local village very welcoming and enjoyed discovering a little of the real Sri Lanka. Angela and John”
“Nice weekend with family, a swap with points. Sally and Jerry became very quickly like friends. We appreciate the holistic attitude towards keeping good care of everything, also their staff. Wonderful hosts, wonderful views, good local and even Western food. Suits for those who want to be away from all the hussle and buzzle. We came from Colombo, and the air was so fresh and crisp here. Thank you!”
“When we talk about our two week holiday in Sri Lanka we instantly start with Jungle Tide. It was the best part of our holiday: after a 16 hour journey with small young children we found ourselves in the homiest, friendliest, most relaxed oasis. The children settled in instantly, Rani and Martin cooked us the most the delicious food, catering also to the children, and looked after us very well, as did Carolyn the interim manager. we loved walking around the village and just relaxing at the house. Thank you for a wonderful time. We hope to be back one day ”
“We are very grateful to Sally, Carolyn, Rani and Martin for a perfect and truly unique vacation. We could not have been taken care of any better. Sally helped us organize our trip to Sri Lanka long before we got there, providing us with precious information, including contact of a reliable driver for our trip from Colombo and around the area. We used Jungle Tide as our base for a ten day stay in Sri Lanka and loved it. Carolyn helped us with the logistics on the ground, and was all around a most gracious hostess. Rani and Martin spoiled us with delicious multi course meals for breakfast and dinner everyday. The house is in a gorgeous location, and while we took wonderful trips to Dambula and Sigiriya and of course Kandy, our favorite parts of the trip was waking up and going to sleep to the sound of Buddhist chanting resonating through the valleys from the one monk monastery a few minutes' walk away. Drinking tea on the terrace and watching monkeys play in the garden. Walking across the tea hills to watch the baker's family make the bread and buying our daily supplies; and coming back to the fragrant dinner and Rani's warm smile at the end of a day of sightseeing. We are already planning our next vacation at Jungle Tide. ”
“We loved staying at the Jungle Tide. The view is amazing and it's very sweet to see monkeys run around the garden. The hosts, Sally and Jerry, were unbelievably helpful. They gave us wonderful advice and tips for travelling in Sri Lanka. The house was very comfortable and Rani (cook) cooked delicious meals. Our 6 year daughter particularly loved rani's pancakes for breakfast.”
“Sally's home high above Kandy is in an amazing location set amongst jungle and tea plantations, and the journey there just adds to it. She gave lots of info before and warned about the roughness of the road to the property. Our children loved the local bus ride into Kandy and the tuk tuk back. It's a great place for relaxing with a great swimming pool, fantastic views and visiting monkeys to the garden. But perhaps the biggest bonus was having her housekeepers Rani and Martin on site. They cooked the most delicious Sri Lankan cuisine and were so helpful in every other way. We would totally recommend her home to others. ”
“Thank you - Sally and family were great and easy communicators, and so happy we managed to make it work I do hope we will manage to go and stay with them up in the hills sometime soon”
“Sally and Jerry were perfect guests. Thank you!”
More about us

We are a British couple with 5 grown up children and 5 grandchildren, some of whom we occasionally travel with or who may visit if we have a swap in the UK. We also have two lovely and very friendly rescue dogs at our home in Jungle Tide, I only mention this in case anyone hates dogs or has allergies. The dogs (Toffee and Suki) are not allowed in any of the bedrooms or on any furniture. They are very used to a constant stream of guests, and are great fun to accompany you on walks - they can even bring you home if you get lost amongst the tea bushes!
-
We Also let out individual en-suite rooms on a B & B basis for 110 points per night for two people please see our separate entry. We cannot always accept swaps in July/August or at Christmas/ Jan/Feb as we also run as a guest house and these are peak times. We offer preferential rates to people from LHS wanting to book as guests during these times.

We are lucky to be only 30mins from Kandy but out of the hustle bustle and pollution of that city. Here you can see birds, monkeys, lizards and squirrels in the trees all around. You can hike through the tea Estates and wave to the friendly locals who willalways be pleased to see you.... the air is clean and cool and the surroundings stunning. the walking is easy because of paths everywhere - but it is very hilly and the views are breathtaking!
