About our home

Spacious home with all the amenities, private back yard with covered patio, queen size bed in master bedroom. The house has been completely refurbished between 2002-2008. Upstairs bath has a tub, downstairs a shower. Hardwood floors, tile in baths. All new appliances. Central municipal heating supplies radiators, very comfy in winter, new automatic heat exchanger installed 2011. My car may be available for exchange, for excursions within Sweden. It's a 2013 Skoda Roomster, with 5 speed manual transmission, in very good condition.

My house is about as typical as you'll get in Sweden, a town home with fairly small but easily maintained yard.

More about us

  1. I've done two home exchanges in 2010 in Australia, in Perth and Wollongong, connecting the two via The Indian Pacific train jouney across the continent. Prior to that, I'd traveled a fair bit, on vacations and through my work. I'm Swedish and American and have lived in France as well.

I prefer nature settings and small towns, time to explore the local scenery and foods. My preferred way of travel is to meander... I'm a professional artist and published author, more about me on

Where is it?

Situated in Kvarnarp at the edge of town, wonderful walking and hiking paths nearby, and less than 2 km to the city centre of Eksjö, historic wooden town in the heart of Småland. Very quiet and well maintained neighborhood.

For a small town we do have exceptionally good restaurants, quality shopping, one of the oldest bookstores in Sweden, a movie theatre with latest digital technology bringing us opera live from the Met. In recent years it's become a capital of culture with live music, plays and art exhibitions. Eksjö is home to the regional hospital. If you like the outdoors, we have an abundance of lakes and forests at our doorstep, where you can go fishing, hunting, hiking or simply meander while you marvel at the absence of city noise. My house is the perfect retreat to simply relax and unwind.

We have four very distinct seasons. In Spring we get excited about the light returning and nature bursting forth with life. During endless Summer days, we spend as much time as we can outdoors to soak up those precious rays. Fall brings crispy clear air with golden yellow birch and aspen leaves and a rich smell of earth. By November it's dark and rainy, we light lots of candles. December is all lit up with Christmas and Advent lights and if we're lucky we have snow to brighten it up. It's a good time to curl up inside, and listen to the silence of the snow.

Eksjö is an old Cavalry town, and one of the few towns to have retained the old wooden buildings. Summer Saturdays you can see the old time Hussars on horseback accompanied by a military marching band parade down main street. The Christmas Market in December is a step back in time. On December 13, with a torch light parade, Lucia and her entourage arrives in a horsedrawn carriage. On Walpurgis Night, April 30, the Knight Tournament is a battle between Spring and Winter for the Princess of Spring, all on horseback.
