About our home

-Charming and picturesque apartment built in the 20´s , the whole area consists of wooden houses with colourful facades.
-2 minutes walk to(public transport) that in 15 minutes bring you either to the archipelago or in 20 minutes to downtown Gothenburg.
-10 minutes walk from the harbour and the salty fragrance of the sea
-The area is very vidid, with booth schools,bars/restaurants and people strolling the streets a sunny Sunday, yet it is located a bit from the centre which means it´s calm and cozy. Very alive, yet not noisy or boisterous.
-The area is perfect for children, there´s a public pool 5 minutes from the house and many playgrounds nearby.
-The house has a common yard/garden that is very green and lush, there´s a small playground, a shared grill and it´s a sanctuary to retreat to a day when you feel tired or the perfect place to let your children play.

We live on the second floor (out of three). It has 2 bedrooms, a living room, kitchen and a toilet, total space is 80 square meters.
As you can see in our pictures, the whole apartment is quite straightforward, is more functional and cozy than luxury but it´s neat and clean with mostly white wallpapers and wooden coloured floors. And it works great for up to 6 persons.
Since our two kids need a room each , we, (the parents) have decided to have our beds in the living room as a temporal solution which means it works as a combined living room (with tv/sofa etc) and a bedroom. The combined room and the other bedroom where our son lives are spacious and bright, there´s tv and fast internet connection.
The smaller bedroom suits anyone but is perfect for a child.
Altogether there are 4 beds and a sofa.
One side of the apartment faces the garden and the other side the street.
Feel free to use any equipment (stereo, coffee brewer, several instruments, toys etc).
Our place is centrally located with shops, cafés and communications just round the corner. The neighbourhood is called “Majorna”. It is located 20 minutes from central town
The area used to be a working-class neighbourhood, today it´s a bit of a bohemian family paradise, it is the most popular one in Gothenburg with thousands of applicants for every apartment. Here you will find small local shops , cobblestone streets, many trees and playgrounds. You can use our bikes, there area is perfect for that as well. Communications are very well organized and run until 3 o´clock in the night.
There is public transport (3 lines of trams) 5 minutes away that take you anywhere in Gothenburg), there´s also a pharmacy, several grocery stores, pizzerias, pubs and restaurants nearby.

Why would you like to visit Gothenburg? If you ask us, the answer is that Gothenburg combines the essence of Swedish summer life by the sea with the pulse of a larger city. Swedens second largest town has around half a million inhabitants. Gothenburg is located on the west coast, construction of that town started in 1621 when the Swedish king wanted a town with access to the water. The city was built by the sea and because of the sea. It is the port of Sweden and has the biggest harbour in Scandinavia. Sightseeing boats travel the man-made channels downtown and taking the ferries trafficking the main channel (separating the mainland and the big island “hissingen” ) or crossing the water by using the 50 meter high bridge “älvsborgsbron) gives you great views of Gothenburg.
During summer, you can take the ferries (included in the public transport) to the southern archipelago. The are several island with populations ranging between 50 and 5000 people. Long sandy beaches for children, arranged bathing jetties and rocky cliffs to dive from and flower meadows to explore offers something for everyone. All island are traffic-free with picturesque fishing villages and scenic landscapes. Some of the bigger islands have shops and other services. To go hiking, bathing, maybe rent a kayak and spend the day on a blanket under a tree and watch the sun lowering beneath the horizon is a priority when visiting Gothenburg.
The harbour is a recreational spot for locals and tourists. The area of “rödasten” has an art gallery, a 5-star fishing restaurant, cafés to grab a cold drink or ice cream in the sun. Take at look a the ships, have a picnic by the sea, or sunbath at the pier while enjoying the view.
Sweden is famous for it´s vast nature, except for the seaside with is beaches and bathing sites (“askim”,”amundön”, “näset” and the archipelago) there are also many lakes and natural reserves, you can rent a canoe or go for a swim at “delsjön”, visit the Swedish fur forest and at the same time swim in the lake “sisjön” , in case you grow tired of the salty seawater and sand beneath your toes :) Both lakes are within 30 minutes from our place.
Concerning day trips you could take a boat ride to the lighthouse “vinga”, or a similar boat ride to the castle of “nya älvsborgs fästning” (a old fortress constructed on an island at the inlet of the Gothenburg, to defend against invaders).
The whole west coast is beautiful, many smaller towns like “marstand” or “varberg” with both history and nice baths are within an hours ride from Gothenburg.

Despite all this, Gothenburg also has the things expected of a bigger town. It´s culturally interesting and hold many surprises.
Scandinavia's biggest amusement park “Liseberg” is pretty different from Disneyland it has the biggest rides but is also more of a “Park” with plantations, cafés and a playground next to the rollercoasters and scary houses.
There´s also the science park “universeum” with exhibitions of the Swedish nature and it´s own rainforest and an experiment section for kids.
Gothenburg is the Swedish capital of music, Way out west and summerburst are two big concerts held during summer. The are many great places for music and nightlife, for example “långgatorna” (the long streets). During summer, the town also hosts the world's biggest youth football tournament “Gothia cup”.
For cafés, handicraft and a view of the old Gothenburg, visit the neighbourhood “haga”.
For relaxing close to downtown without having to travel the slightest bit, the park “slottskogen” with zoological gardens (moose , goats, penguins, seals etc), the biggest playground in town, volleyball-lanes, outdoor gyms and big lawns for all kinds of activities is perfect to visit on a lazy day.
For the culturally interested Gothenburg museums like – “sjöfartmuseet” (the maritime museum), “konstmuseet” (the art museeum) and “maritiman” (a flooting museum with it´s own destroyer and uboat)
We would happily provide you with tips and more reccomendations if you´d like to to visit our town!
