Stockholm is sometimes referred to as the "Venice of the north" which rings true to me in some regards. We love living here as we are never far away from water. We live on a small island in central Stockholm and have never had a better living. Our island is known as the "country in the city". It's a leafy island with a beautiful park, gorgeous walking paths along the shore and stunning views over Stockholm. We have two marinas and two fantastic public jetties from which you go for a swim any time in the day. In the summer you will see young as old coming down the streets in their robes and flip flops going for a swim.
The island has a great convenience store for all the necessities, three cafes and a lifestyle shop, a sushi, Thai and two pizzerias. These are great for easy meals but not for foodies. We will give you all the great tips on Restos, shopping and cultural places.
15 minutes on the bus and you are in the city of Stockholm. If you don't mind walking we recommend strolling to town. It'll take 45 minutes in a leisurely pace but you will have stunning views and great coffee or lunch stops along the way.
Our lovely home is filled with sunshine flowing in from east, south and west. It's a split-level house which means we are above the rooftops on one side and almost garden level on the other side. The communal garden is a mature natural garden with grand oak trees that makes you feel you live in a tree house.
The social area is an open plan kitchen/diner and living room which makes it a great place to be with the family whilst prepping some food. The bedrooms are a good size and the main bedroom has a French balcony which we enjoy immensely facing a huge hedge of lilac plants. The kids room is shared between our five year old and one year old girls so currently set up with 2 standard size single beds.
On the balcony we usually have a small kitchen garden with herbs, tomatoes and cucumbers. Should one need to work during their stay we have a space for that too.
It's a smallish flat but thanks to some good architect in the 40's the floor plan is fantastically functional and proportional that it feels much bigger. The interior is a mix of who we are, a Moroccan and a Swede so we combine Scandinavian design with Moorish handcrafted pieces.
