About our home

Our architect-designed home on Lidingö, one of the most affluent and fashionable areas of Stockholm, was built in 1997 and has a typical Scandinavian design with a lot of wood and big windows and has an amazing view of the neighborhood from its high location. The light, the location of the house (in such a green peaceful area, and still just a short drive with car or public transportation from Stockholm, the third most reputable city in the world! (see more below)) and the coziness of the house is what we like most about our home!

The picture we have on the site are all taken in December, the darkest period of the year, and may not show justice to our house... Whereas the winters are very dark, the summers are very light! Both seasons have their charm, but if you plan to be here in the summer, you have to imagine our house just flooding in light - that was the thought we had with the architect!

The house has 3 levels. The first floor has a nice open area with kitchen and living room that opens up to a big terrace with table for eating outside, a lounge area and sun chairs. The kitchen, all white with appliances in stainless steel from SMEG, has everything you need to cook great meals. If you are here in the summer we have a big barbecue outside, and also an area of the garden where we grow herbs and vegetables.

The walls in the stairs leading up to the second floor and the walls in the hallway on the second floor are all covered in birch wood, an idea we got when visiting the Museum of Modern Art in Stockholm. On this floor you will find 3 bedrooms, a bathroom and a TV room. The master bedroom has big windows on each side of the bed (king size) and a balcony door that we often have open during the nice summer nights. The second bedroom, one of our daughter's, has a single bed (105 cm) and also a door that opens up to the balcony around the house. Since our other daughter moved to the bedroom in the basement, we keep the third bedroom on this floor as a guest room with a sofa bed that comfortably sleeps 2 persons. The bathroom with a big shower is very "clean" and light with a door that opens up to a small balcony. On this floor you will also find an open living area with a big sofa and a big television. This room is really pleasant to be in! You have the feeling that you are in a bird nest up in the trees! The windows looking out over the neighborhood are huge, and the light can be amazing!

In the basement there is yet another bedroom. Basement may not sound very nice, but the there are windows and a lot of light in this area too! And in the summer, this is the best bedroom as it is cool! In this room there is also a couch and a TV for the kids to hang out with their friends. Here you will also find a big bathroom with shower, indoor jacuzzi, and, of course since you are in Sweden, a sauna (both steam and dry). In the garden you will also find an outdoor jacuzzi that is actually used all year around except the warmest days in the summer.

We have wifi in the house, a Sonos system, and Apple TVs that you can use as needed. Almost opposite of our house there is a nice play ground for kids, and also a small football field.

There are nice green areas on Lidingö for walking, running or doing other sports. We are members of the Islinge Tennis Club with an outdoor tennis court justs 5 minutes walk away, and the Lidingö Golf Club, one of the oldest in Sweden, is just 10 minutes walk from our house. The sea is also 5 minutes away with nice walking tracks and also with the possibility to go for a swim. Lidingö is known for its cross country running event, Lidingöloppet, the largest cross country running event in the world, so there is of course great tracks for running, or walking, all over the island. The centre of Lidingö (a small outdoor mall) with food stores, restaurants and other shops is a 15-minute walk or a 5-minute drive away. Most of what you need is thus very close :) If you want to read more about Lidingö, check out Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liding%C3%B6.

The house is located in a nice old residential area of Lidingö with public transportation nearby. One bus stop and then 3 underground stops and you are in the middle of Stockholm! We have 4 bikes available, so if you prefer that, it will take you 20-25 minutes to the centre of Stockholm. Stockholm is one of the most beautiful cities in the world and has a lot to offer. The stunning archipelago is also accessible by boat from either Stockholm or from Lidingö. And did you know that Stockholm is ranked as the third most reputable city in the world! We will be happy to help you plan your vacation in this area, or other parts of Sweden, so just let us know your interests and we will ensure that you will have one of your best vacations! We also have other friends who are interested in Love Home Swap in Dalarna, a very traditional area of Sweden, and also in the south of Sweden, should that be of interest!
