About our home

Our home from 1909 is in in a leafy suburb 25 minutes by commuter rail from central Stockholm (15 min by car). It was a summer "cottage" until the 1950's in a sea-spa area built up between 1890 and 1920. Brand new large kitchen with all amenities. Bathroom with big cast iron bathtub and separate shower (renovated 2004). Large garden--though overgrown(!)-- that backs onto a nature reserve. Airy and light with a master bedroom, 2 other bedrooms (single bed in one, 2 bunk beds in the other) and sofabed in the downstairs playroom (sleeps 2). Heat pump installed 2005 for maintenance-free central heating. One full bath, one guest WC. Two fireplaces (one is a ceramic stove, the other a glassed-in open fireplace.) Wood floors throughout, high ceilings, the feel of an older home but with modern comforts. Broadband wireless internet. Cable TV including BBC world, CNN.

More about us

  1. We are both academics (regional planning/development and ecology) and have 2 daughters, 8 and 4. We are interested in good food, nature and home design. We entertain often and when we travel we like to stay somewhere that feels personal. We are tidy, do not smoke and have no pets. Our daughters are respectful of other people's things. We are American and Swedish. More photos are available on request!

Where is it?

Near everything! Enormous nature reserve backs onto our back yard. Walk 5 minutes one way to the bay- 3 minutes in other direction to the commuter rail (25 min to Stockholm), 15 minutes walk to shopping center with all basic needs (5 min by car). Archipelago ferry a 20 min walk (5 minute bike ride, 5 minutes by car) with links to Stockholm's fantastic archipelago. Many young children on our block, quiet street, a good base for exploring stockholm city and archipelago. We have some good restaurants within walking distance by the original spa hotel and Stockholm's famed restaurants and sights nearby.
