About our home

There are two houses and a few outhouses on the property. The main house (100 m2 + 20 m2 loft, built 1995) has two bedrooms (2 + 1 bed) and a loft with two beds. There’s also a toilet, shower, sauna and laundry facilities.
The smaller house (25 m2) has two beds, toilet, shower and a kitchenette.

There is a natural patio between the houses, with large sun decks, barbeque and a variety of garden furniture. The patio is quiet and secluded, well hidden from view. If you are in the mood for sport after dinner we have a petanque/boules pitch (and the equipment to play). Or why not try the old Swedish game “Kubb”?

The house has a TV and PlayStation2. There is also a large selection of DVDs and games, both computer and “old-fashioned” board games. Lots of books to read (if you know Swedish :-). Note that English-language series and films are not dubbed on Swedish TV, so you still follow your favorite TV shows!

The property is 3000m2, mainly natural ground (rock, trees). Right by the houses there is a lawn and a small herb garden.

Features

More about us

  1. We are a couple in our fifties with two (nearly) grown up sons. Åsa works as a Marketing Communication Manager at an international IT company, Göran works as CFO at a company within global communication systems. Oscar (18) and Axel (17) are both in high school studying technology and nature science.

We enjoy traveling, and have been around Europe, Canada, the US and some parts of Asia. We are into both nature experiences (skiing, hiking, biking, boating, fishing and of course mushroom picking!) as well as city life (live music, restaurants, theaters and just spend time browsing).

Other than that, we spend our spare time renovating our house (our home is a 100+ year old building) and maintaining the 5,000m2 land that goes with it.

We are both keen on cooking so having a place to stay with a proper kitchen is very appealing, in contrast to living the “hotel life”.

Where is it?

Neighbourhood

Our neighborhood is a small community of 12 owner-occupied properties. It’s peaceful and quiet, and all the neighbors know each other.

The area is bordered to the east by the Baltic Sea with easy access to Gryt Archipelago. The Swedish archipelago is quite unique, with rock islands polished to a smooth surface by the prehistoric inland ice. Perfect for spending lazy summer days, or for more adventurous island discoveries. The Gryt Archipelago has 2900 islands, so there is lot to discover!

Besides spending time on the islands, the sea also offers swimming, boating, water sports, and fishing. Coarse fishing with a standard rod is license free. And there’s a marina where you can rent kayaks, jet-skis and windsurfing gear. There is also a very nice boat taxi that takes you to the very outskirts of the archipelago, with stops at several islands.

Besides the sea, the house has beautiful surroundings with almost endless opportunities for hiking, biking and of course picking the season’s berries and mushrooms. The ancient Swedish law of “allemansrätt” accords legal public access to private land, lakes and forests, almost wherever you like. This almost unique right comes with the responsibility not to cause damage or unduly disrupt wildlife. The same goes for the archipelago; you are free to anchor at, and visit, any of the cute little islands.

By the sea, 400 meters from the house, we have the boat dock and a recreational area with picnic tables. These facilities are shared with the neighbors.

A five-minute drive (or 20 minutes by boat) to the nearby marina, which has a nice restaurant, bar and live music during peak season.

The nearest town, Valdemarsvik, is only 20 minutes and will cover all a family’s shopping needs.
