About our home

We live in an old house built in 1898. The name of the house is "Villa Solhem" which means the sunny home. These kind of houses was built by rich merchants in the late 1800 - early 1900 as summer retreats away to get away from The citylife.

The first floor consists of a bright glass veranda, a library with a fireplace and a piano, a smaller bathroom with a shower, and a dining room were you can seat up to 10 guests. Here is also a large kitchen with a joining dining area were you can easily seat 8 people. On the second floor you find the master bedroom with an entrance to a large balcony equipped with table and chairs, a large bathroom with a fireplace, a living room with a TV, a small office, and an office/guest bedroom. On the third floor there is a bedroom which sleeps two. There is also a cozy little dining/lounging area in the tower, outside is a small balcony with a beautiful view. The garden consists of a BBQ area outside the kitchen, and a terrace with tables, chairs and sun beds.

There are good flights to Gothenburg.

More about us

  1. We are a couple, Niklas (56, business consultant), Kristina (50, marketer).
We enjoy travelling and love to meet new people, visit new places and cultures. Our home is one of our biggest interests, we enjoy refurbishing it stepwise and like to go and look for the right decorations and furniture. We also like to spend time with family and friends, often at home in company of a good dinner or a weekend stay. We really love our surroundings, the sea and the nature. This would be our 4th exchange and we have really enjoyed this type of vacation! We really respect other peoples properties and promise to take good care of your home.
We also have a cat called Pelle who will be home during the exchange but can be handled by neighburs if you are away.

Where is it?

The peninsula we live on is called Särö (old days it was an island). It is located 25 km from outside Gothenburg (Swedens 2nd largest city), and it became popular in the beginning of the 1900 when people from the city built summer houses here and the area became famous for golf, tennis, bathing and relaxing. Our house is situated centrally on the peninsula, with 5 minutes walking distance to the golf- and tennis courts, and 10 minutes walk to the sea/beach. Within 10 minutes walking distance we also have 2 restaurants and a hotel. The peninsula also have a nature reserve with a very old forrest and a walking track following the coast line of the peninsula. 3 km from the house you find a small strip mall with a grocery store, gas station, bakery, pharmacy, pizzeria etc. If you want to go shopping the closest town is Kungsbacka 10 km away, which has nice mall (Kungsmässan) and outlet mall (Hede Outlet). You can also go to Gothenburg city which is about 30 minutes away by car. Our home is located 45 minutes by car from Landvetter airport.
The Swedish west coast is famous for it's typical archipelago with many small islands and quaint fishing villages further up the west coast. You will find both sand beaches and typical Swedish beaches with rocks on Särö. When in Sweden it is also close to go to Oslo in Norway (3h), Stockholm in Sweden (3h by train) and Copenhagen, Denmark (3h).
