“Aline's apartment is very convenient to the La-Chaux de-Fonds train station. Just an elevator ride up from the station tunnel to the street & walk one block to her building. Her unit is spacious with a double bed in the main room & a spare room. Supermarkets at the Migros Shopping Mall are within easy walk from her building. With our Swiss Travel Pass Flex of 8 days unlimited travel, we are able to travel to all parts of Switzerland using her home as our base. ”
Aline's reviewsAs a host (4)
“I stayed for one week in this very nice apartment of Aline in beautiful, Art Nouveau, la-Chaux-de-Fonds. The apartment has a beautiful entrance, nice floors and stained glass, all in Art Nouveau style. It is indeed very near the city center, shops, the railway station and a few interesting museums. Walking to the other side, you find a nice park with outside swimming pool. Aline prepared everything perfect, I felt very welcome. Lots of information too! La-Chaux-de-Fonds is interesting, and in the surroundings are enough possibilities for hikes, or visits to cities like Bienne, Neuchatel, etc. Aline took also good care of my apartment and plants.. I can recommend an exchange!”
“Un échange "covid-compatible" dans une région proche que nous connaissions déjà, donc sans attentes d'infos touristiques . La communication avec Aline et son accueil ont été parfaits et nous avons apprécié notre séjour chez elle. A recommander”
“Bel appartement style "Art Nouveau". Ville intéressante culturellement et aussi pour ses paysages.”
Where is it?
La Chaux-de-fonds is a town of 38'000 inhabitants in the Jura Mountains, renowned for watchmaking industry. Thanks to the high altitude (1000 meters above sea level), the weather is usually clear and sunny.
Since 2009, La Chaux-de-Fonds and Le Locle (neighbouring city) are on the UNESCO World Heritage List for the watchmaking town planning. It means especially a checkerboard town planning scheme. Walking in the streets, you will discover treasures in Art nouveau style on the frontages or in staircases hidden behind the doors. The architect Le Corbusier was born in the city and created several houses.
Out of the city, in the south (20 km), the city of Neuchâtel and the lake are perfect to stroll in the old town or to have a dip in the lake. In the east, from the top of the Chasseral Mountain, you can look out on France on one side, and on the Alps on the other side and why not use a scooter to walk back down. In the same direction, the « Franches-Montagnes », a plateau covering an area of 200 square kilometers with pastures and fir trees are the paradise for hiking, riding, pony trekking and a lot of other outdoor activities.
It is easy to move with public transports.
La Chaux-de-Fonds is not far from bigger cities : Bern (65 km), Basel (100 km), Zurich (150 km), Genève (140 km).
