“We had an absolutely brilliant exchange with this lovely family! The location in Lausanne is amazing -- very easy to get to everything yet a quiet haven to return to everyday, with easy shopping and good bakeries nearby for everything you need. We still miss the views over the lake and watching the sun set from their terrace. It was a perfect base for exploring the region (Evian les Bains, Montreux, Vevey, Geneva and more). Most days we literally just walked everywhere in Lausanne, the bus routes are perfect if you want to combine walking with taking a bus but we found walking the best (you can sample the ice creams and chocolates on the way, as you walk). Frederic and Sophie's recommendations were perfect and we also found our own favourite spots. The lake ferries were a great way to appreciate the location and all that Lac Leman has to offer. We took our car but a car is not necessary at all, you have access to everything via the buses, trains and ferries. Their apartment was spacious and we had a warm welcome and felt very comfortable there. Needless to say, they left our home in immaculate condition and it was so nice to get to know this family. No hesitation whatsoever in recommending this home for exchange!”

“Our exchange to Lausanne with this family was our first Home For Exchange experience, and it was just great! Fred and Sophie are very nice, open-minded and warm-hearted persons, and we enjoyed it very much to be in contact with them. They helped us with great advice about trekking and sightseeing tours in the Lake Geneva area, and about everything else worth to know. For us, it was just fabulous that we could use their car, because some destinations are not easily to reach by train, especially small villages in the mountains. Their spacious apartment with parquet floor is in a suburb of Lausanne; it takes 15 min by bus to the lake Geneva shore of Lausanne (the bus stop is just in front of the house) and 10 minutes to the main station, where trains to all important places around lake Geneva leave. Very practical! We met Fred and Sophie and their lovely daughter Elise when we arrived in Lausanne, so that they could explain everything to us. We felt very well in their apartment, and our own daughter still talks about Elise's toys sometimes :-) and that she wishes to go "to Elise" again! We would anytime exchange again with them! “We returned from this home in Switzerland with lots of wonderful memories. Location could not have been better, right at the edge of Lausanne. Across the street was a grocery shop where we could buy everything we needed. The bus to downtown stopped one minute from the door, but walking distance to the centre was only 10-15 minutes. Access to highway with the car was few blocks away, you do not have to bring the car into central Lausanne if you don't like driving in foreign cities. The apartment was bright and spacious. From the balcony, there is a magnificent view to Lac Lèman (lake Geneva) and the alps. We picked up the family car at Geneva airport which is a small hour ride from Lausanne. France and Italy is only 1-2 hrs drive away, we visited Aosta in Italy and Chamonix and Annecy in France. All beautiful cities with genuine old stonehouses, lakes and channels. Lausanne itself is an interesting city, full of culture, business life and places to relax. The city beach is a big, beautiful park where one can enjoy water and sun all day long. Along Lac Lèman there are authentic cities and villages and the UNESCO preserved vinyard area which stretches beautifully up the hills from the lakeside. Lausanne is the perfect starting point for visiting the rest of Switzerland, in short time, you can travel from one end of the country to the other. I could write a book about all the nice places we visited. The exchange worked out perfect, thanks to the Gigon family. They had left lots of interesting brochures for us on things to see and do. They are 100% trustworthy, very kind and helpful. We also stayed in touch during vacation in each others homes. We can really recommend an exchange with this sympathetic family. I am sure you will enjoy your holiday just as much as we did.”
Where is it?
Extremely well located (10 minutes from the railway station and the historical centre), our flat is however very quiet. We love to relax in the garden, on the terrace and look to the beautiful view and the sunset. Lausanne, olympic capital, is a very nice town (150'000 hab.) with an extremely interesting cultural offer (www.lausanne.ch) and beautiful places to walk (parks, forests), swim (many beaches by the lake) and relax. Lausanne has much to offer to its visitors, but also guarantees the highest level of mobility, thanks to the very efficient Swiss railway net. Indeed, Geneva and the international airport are 30 minutes away, Bern, Gstaad and the Gruyere 1 hour, Lucerne, Zurich and Basel 2 hours, Lyon and Zermatt (the Matterhorn) 3 hours, Paris and Milan 3.5 hours. If you like walking in the mountains, there are opportunities all around.
