About our home

Our 60 year old home is comfortable, clean and cosy. Its interiour has been renovated 15 years ago, and all its equipment like stove, fridge, freezer, toilets, shower etc. have been replaced or renewed. You have the possibility to have your meals either around the small table in the kitchen, in the adjoining dining room or out on the covered terrace beside our flower and vegetable garden. There is also a lawn for the children to play on. The house has 2 balconies with a view either to the Bernese alps or the Jura mountains. A private road leads to our house, so there is no through traffic. It's a very quiet and cosy home.

More about us

  1. We are Romy and Paul (both 70), a married couple with two grown-up sons and three grandchildren. We both go hiking/trekking and ski-ing as often as we can. Romy likes gymnastics. Playing traditional Swiss folk music in a group on his self-built dulcimer and singing in a choir are some of Paul's hobbies.
We both worked for the Swiss government treating civil aviation matters until June 2009 and are now retired. We enjoy travelling when able to get away. We have done more than 15 successful home exchanges so far. We are especially interested in touring, hiking and becoming acquainted with old traditions.

Where is it?

Neighbourhood

We live in a little town with 12'000 inhabitants. From our home, it takes a 10 minutes' walk (or a 4 minutes' bus ride) to reach the centre with good shopping possibilities.

Our house is ideally located as a touring base. Our town offers easy access to the picturesque cities of Berne (12 minutes by train), Thun (also 12 minutes by train), Interlaken and the Bernese alps (1 hour by train), Zermatt with the World famous Matterhorn (2 1/4 hrs) with hourly or even half-hourly train connections. There are many famous touristic sights you should not miss, and mountain railways are waiting for you to bring you up on the tops. Or would you prefer to go aboard one of the many boats on the nearby lake of Thoune? Switzerland is known to have one of the best and densest public transportation systems worldwide which means that all the popular sights can easily be reached by train (see https://www.sbb.ch/en/home.html).
But we also change cars if you prefer.

A lot of summer festivals take place in our area in July and August. For more information, see also http://www.myswitzerland.com/en/destinations/holiday-destinations-in-switzerland/lake-thun-region.html

Paris (4 1/2 hrs by train) and Milan (3 1/2 hrs by train) can also easily be reached.
