About our home

The villa, called Lanai 4, is on the Palm Hills golf course in Hua Hin, about a 10 minute drive from the beach and also 15 minutes from the centre of town. The villa has three ensuite bedrooms (one in a guest villa which also has its own sitting room), a large open-air sala for sitting out, a dining room, a kitchen and a maid's room+shower room. There is a large pool in the centre plus ample area for sunbathing. The whole villa is surrounded by trees and gardens. Covered parking is available for two cars. All rooms can be opened up to the fresh air but there is air-conditioning throughout as well. The kitchen is fully equipped with SMEG appliances as well as a microwave. We have wi-fi and a satellite dish.

More about us

  1. I used to be head of development for a Thai hotel group, based in Bangkok and travelling widely through Asia, having formerly been an investment banker. My wife worked in banking following her MBA but is now a full-time mum looking after our two boys, Ben and Ned (as at late 2015, aged 9 and 7). We went to Thailand in 2005 from the UK and came back to live in London in 2013. Ironically, I'm not a golfer, but we loved the space, water features and general atmosphere of Palm Hills as well as the laid-back style of the villa, so we bought it! We still use it as a second home around New Year and our (Thai) family pops down sometimes for weekends, but otherwise are happy to look at swapping it. We have now done four successful swaps, to Sweden, Paris, Avignon and - when we lived in Bangkok - to London as well.

Where is it?

The golf course is one of seven in the Hua Hin area. As well as golf it offers a clubhouse with bar, serving lunch and dinner and a separate sports club building with tennis, squash, gym and a large pool. Meals are also available there.
Just outside the Palm Hills complex is a large outlet mall with shops and also a very good (and cheap) food court and even closer is a themed leisure and shopping area called the Venetian. There is also an excellent seafood restaurant (Baan Chom Talay) around the corner For something more formal, both the Sheraton and Dusit hotels are 5 minutes drive from Palm Hills.
The beaches are also very close, accessed directly or through the hotels - there is horse-riding on several stretches of sand)
Between the city centre and the villa are several supermarkets (eg Makro, and Golden Place), elephant riding and go-karting. The royal teak palace is five minutes to the North.
Within Hua Hin itself are numerous restaurants and bars as well as several night markets and a large shopping centre (Tesco, Boots, cinema etc). Being a Royal town, the sleaze associated with some other Thai beach resorts is notably absent.
Weather in Hua Hin is good and dryer than places like Phuket and, being North of the town centre, Palm Hills is only a 2-hour drive from Bangkok.
