About our home

Our home is a duplex on the third floor of a 20 years old building. The terrace upstairs has a nice view of the city and the sea. At nights, you can see the distant lights of the Greek island Lesbos from the terrace. There is a double bed in each bedroom. Downstairs, we have a large living room, a bedroom, a kitchen, a bathroom and two balconies. Upstairs, we have a bedroom, a bathroom and a terrace. It is ideally suited to accommodate 4 people; however, can accommodate up to 5 people. Our home is 130 m2 and fully furnished.

More about us

  1. I'm a retired English teacher and my husband is a retired journalist. Now, we both do some translation work at home. I speak English and my husband speaks French.

  2. We have two grown up children. A boy and a girl. They both work and live in Istanbul.

  3. We love jogging, cooking, music, cinema and wine. We haven't exchanged homes before but planning to do it as often as possible from now on.

Where is it?

Neighbourhood

Buzzy restaurants
There are lovely fish restaurants and delicious local food around or near our house.
Cool bars
You can walk to cool bars from our house. It takes only 20 minutes on foot, to reach the district where nice bars are situated near the sea.
Cozy cafés
There are many cozy cafes in the town and one of them is in our street where we really enjoy eating fresh cookies, pastry and drinking tea or coffee. It is run by a family and they are very friendly.
Retail therapy
I guess you will also enjoy shopping from the local shops that sell authentic clothes or gifts.
Bit of culture
Our town is famous for its buildings made by the Greek citizens of the Ottoman Empire in the late 19th century. Most of these buildings have been restored and are spectacular. The Greek history of the town is felt everywhere: the churches, the buildings, the cuisine and so on. You can learn more about our town from here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ayval%C4%B1k
Spot of exercise
For me, the best exercise in the town is swimming. A ten or fifteen minute walk from our house will take you to a blue flag beach. If you visit our town in spring, autumn or winter you can join trekking tours to Mount Ida.
Day tripping
There are quite a lot of historical places around the town and you can join daily tours to see them. Boat trip is an other fun alternative to discover the small islands around the town.
