About our home

This is a two bedroom apartment located in Besiktas, the center of Istanbul. It's my second home where I stay whenever I go to Istanbul. (My current one bedroom condo that can accommodate up to 4 people in Washington, DC-USA is also available for exchange. A picture of my DC condo is posted on the pictures page). The apartment is located in a 30 year old building that has 10 units. It's on the first floor or entry level. Therefore, accessing the apartment is very easy. You just need to go up a few stairs before entering the building. The unit has all the amenities one would need in an apartment. Also, the apartment was renovated about 7 years ago, and has been maintained very well since then.

Living room is very comfortable and gets plenty of light. There is a dining table with 4 chairs adjacent to the living room. Master bedroom has a queen bed. The second bedroom has a sofa bed, which can accommodate 2 people. Its kitchen is small but it has all the required appliances & utensils. No dishwasher though as there is no space for it. There is a natural gas heater in the apartment, which also provides hot water. The unit also has an A/C.

The apartment is also available for short-term rentals at $450 per week, $1600 per month (between October and May); and at $600 per week, $2000 per month (between June and September).

More about us

  1. Hello, I'm Adam. I'm currently living in Washington, DC-USA. I work as an executive for a business organization. I live alone, and I have a son who lives nearby. We would like to take some of these trips together as long as we can find mutually convenient vacation times. Otherwise, I'll most likely travel with a friend. I like traveling, and I have already been to 34 countries. Yet, there are more countries to be visited in my list. I was informed of this site by a friend who has been exchanging homes for some time. Here I am... I hope, through this site, not only I would be able to visit some new countries but also make some new friends!

By the way, if you ever decide to come to Istanbul, I will be happy to share with you "My Personal Guide to Istanbul", a piece containing my personal favorites I have written for friends visiting Istanbul.

One last point. It appears that simultaneous exchanges are unlikely to work for me. Please contact me if the concerned exchange location is your second home or you have enough flexibility to offer non-simultaneous exchanges.

Where is it?

Besiktas is located in the center of Istanbul and provides easy access to every part of the city. The historic city is about 20 minutes away by car-taxi. You can walk to the shore of the Bosphorus in 5 minutes, and take a boat to anywhere. Taksim-Beyoglu district, the entertainment center of Istanbul, is about 15 minutes away by car-taxi. If you don't want to take a taxi or walk, you can go everywhere by public buses or shared taxis/minibuses (We call them Dolmus).

Besiktas isn't great just because of its location. It's also one of the oldest districts of the great city of Istanbul. It's a place where you will have a chance to observe typical Turks doing business, shopping or just enjoying their free times. One of the 3 famous Turkish soccer teams, Besiktas, was born here. Its traditional market is one of the most unique places in the entire city. It has a wide variety of restaurants. It's also within walking distance to Dolmabahce Palace, Yildiz Kasri, Naval Museum and Art Museum as well as fancy shopping districts of Tesvikiye and Nisantasi. For your daily grocery shopping, there are several grocery stores within 2-3 minutes walking distance.

The neighborhood where the building is located is a very quite, clean and safe area whose inhibitants are essentially upper middle-class people. However, there are several diplomats and upper income level Turks living in the area's Bosphorus viewing apartments.
