Our apartment overlooks the village of Kas on the Mediterranean coast of Turkey, called the Turquoise Coast because of the magnificant colour of the sea here.
On the bottom floor of our penthouse apartment is a spacious eat-in kitchen, a large bathroom with WC and shower, and a large open-plan lounge/dining area which at the front opens out onto a balcony with views over the harbour to the right, across to the Greek Island of Kastellorizo straight ahead and to another sweeping bay to the left. At the rear of the bottom floor is a terrace which faces the wonderful natural mountainside behind the apartment.
Upstairs are 2 double bedrooms and 1 single bedroom all of which have the same stunning views, only higher! There is also another large bathroom including bath, shower and WC. At the rear of the upstairs area is a large wraparound terrace with mountain and seaviews.
It must be mentioned that to obtain such stunning views there are 100 steps up to our apartment so it is not for the faint-hearted!
We don't have a pool but the water's edge is just below our apartment, about a 5 minute walk down the hill.
My name is Penny and I am Australian. My husband's name is Kevin and he is Welsh. We have been married for 25 years (this year) and have spent most of our married life in Australia but have been living and working in Jersey in the Channel Islands since 2000.
We came to Kas on holiday in May 2004 and fell in love with it on the spot and bought 2 apartments in the week that we were here. After holidaying here a couple of times since then we decided that we would retire here so drove through France, Italy and Greece and arrived here in October.
As we have now retired we can finally see more of the world and we think that house-swapping is a fabulous idea as travel is our favourite pastime.
Our apartment is a 5 minute walk into the pretty fishing village of Kas. The harbour is full of gulets (Turkish yachts), diving boats and of course fishing boats. At the harbour's edge are tea gardens where you can sit and sip a cup of cay (Turkish tea), or freshly squeezed orange juice whilst watching the world go by. There are also wonderful restaurants and fantastic shops in the cobble-stoned streets behind the harbour.
The nearest town is Kalkan, another pretty fishing village which is now a popular resort. The ancient ruins of Xanthos, Myra, Patara, Kekova (to name but a few) are all within an hour's drive from Kas. The closest airport is Dalaman which is about 2 hours drive from Kas, the other airport is Antalya which is about 3 hours drive.
