“Notre échange avec la Belgique a été l’occasion de rencontrer Femke qui est hollandaise et Tony qui est anglais ! Cela traduit bien le cosmopolitisme de Bruxelles ! Un beau moment de convivialité et d’échange …. Nous ne vous recommandons pas leur maison puisque Tony et Femke sont en train de déménager; mais nous partageons volontiers avec vous le plaisir de cette rencontre. Our exchange with Belgium give us the opportunity to meet Femke who is Dutch and Tony who is English! A good example o the cosmopolitanism of Brussels! A beautiful moment of conviviality. We do not recommend their house because Tony and Femke are moving; but we share gladly with you the pleasure of this meeting.”

About our home
Our house is a semi-detached, delightful and cosy 16th century cottage, which used to be a pub. The bell for the last drinks round still hangs in the living room! Although located in the centre of town, it's completely private, with only a bicycle repair shop on one side, so there are no direct neighbours. Thanks to triple glazing in the front windows, there's no noise coming through from the street in front of the house.
The house is full of period charm, with beautiful oak beams and floors downstairs and cream-coloured carpet upstairs. There are three bedrooms, all of which have their own bathroom. Two bathrooms have a bath, toilet and sink, one bathroom has a shower cubicle, toilet and sink. There's a very comfortable sofa bed for two people downstairs in the front room.
The large kitchen, with lovely views of the garden, has the usual mod cons.
The mature and typically English garden at the back of the cottage is big enough for children to play (football and table tennis) in (and for having tea and cakes).
There is off-road parking space for four cars.

Femke's reviews
As a host (1)More about us
-
We are a Dutch/English family of four, interested in meeting nice people and visiting interesting and beautiful places.
We have done our first home exchange in 2012 with a family in France, which was very successful, and we would like to continue this wonderful way of spending time in a different environment.
My husband, Tony, is a professional singer/piano player, I (Femke) am a freelance interpreter/translator and Tour Guide. We have two eighteen-year-old boys, Joseph and Patrick, and also part of our family are our lovely cat Suzy (10yo) and well-behaved, non-barking dog Otis (4yo). In European exchanges we prefer somewhere where we can take Otis with us and we would like Suzy to be looked after by our exchange partners, although she can go to a cattery.
We would be more than happy to look after your (friendly) pets and/or livestock,
We lived as diplomats in the republic of Georgia from 2004 till 2008, where I was the Assistant to the EU Ambassador.
We will show the utmost respect for your house, your belongings and your privacy.
All requests are seriously considered and will be answered.
We look forward to hearing from you!

Where is it?
Neighbourhood
Abingdon is a lovely old market town in the county of Oxfordshire and our house is in the centre of town, with all shops, pubs, restaurants, a surgery and a vet at walking distance.
There are beautiful walks and parks along the river Thames, which runs through town. You can enjoy a drink at one of the pubs along the river, perhaps after having peddled in a canoe or kayak, which are available for hire. All this at a 10-minutes' walking distance from our house.

The city of Oxford is only 10 km/6 mi away.
London is less than an hour's drive via the A40, or can be reached by train from the nearby village of Didcot, where there are 4 trains per hour to Paddington station (a 40 minutes' ride).
