About our home

Wallingford is a wonderful market town situated on the banks of the River Thames, situated between Reading (12 miles), Henley-on-Thames (11 miles) and Oxford (13 miles) and surrounded by beautiful countryside.

As Wallingford is the last home of the 'Queen of Crime' Agatha Christie, we have themed our ground floor bijoux cottage apartment in memory of her.

The cottage is styled in a modern version of 'Art Deco' as depicted in many of her books and films. You'll find artwork that are clues to names of her books, as well as an antique typewriter, telephone, camera, magnifying glass and other curiosities to delight and intrigue.

The cottage has two bedrooms, the master bedroom is ideal for a couple and the second room for one person, or a child, or two small children. There is an open plan living and kitchen area overlooking the small walled garden. In the living room we have a fireplace with a lovely wood burning effect stove, a large three seater velvet sofa, breakfast bar, Echo Dot (speaker) and a large TV with Netflix & Amazon Prime on as well as terrestrial channels.

The kitchen has everything you need to cook up a storm, even a tea pot if you decide to invite over Miss Marple. The kitchen is well equipped with a washer dryer, large fridge freezer, toastie maker, spices, kettle, toaster, Nespresso machine and plenty of storage space.

Our beds are hotel standard and we have made the beds with 400 count cotton bed linen. For those that suffer with allergies our duvets and pillows are made from luxurious Microfibre which feels ‘Just like Down’. We've recently installed new double glazed windows as well as black out curtains as we know how important a good nights sleep is.

Although we stated two double beds, to be clear one is bed is a small double bed.

Our Art Deco styled bathroom, has a walk-in shower with a big rain shower head as well as a held shower. And large soft cotton towels.

The small garden has a couple of chairs and a table.

The house is situated in a quiet street in the center of this lovely market town which is on the banks of the River Thames and surrounded by beautiful countryside.

Wallingford is steeped in history and the remains of Wallingford's Motte and Bailey castle and the Castle Gardens are a great place to explore and a good venue for a summer picnic. You can also trace Wallingford’s Saxon past at the museum which offers local history walks and other events.

Murder Mysteries!
Wallingford also has a strong presence in murder mystery fiction. Agatha Christie (whose remains are buried at nearby Cholsey) lived and worked in Wallingford, taking influence from local landmarks and residents in Winterbrook for stories such as Miss Marple. Our apartment has been influenced by this 'Queen of Crime' and you will find lots of references to her books and plays. See what clues you can find.

More recently, Wallingford is the location of Causton in the TV series Midsomer Murders. Many of the series’ extras herald from Wallingford and much of the filming is completed in this beautiful part of the country. Take a look at to learn more.

For the more active there are many miles of walking trails, either along the Thames Path or up into the Chiltern Hills. The Ridgeway National Trail passes within a 10 min walk of wallingford.

The Thames passes through Wallingford and day boats can be hired locally as well as weekly hires from Benson Marina. Cruises can be taken in the Summer to Abingdon or Reading.

There is a heated outdoor pool and splash pool by the bridge, free tennis courts in the Bullcroft Park as well as a playground.

Also nearby is Didcot Railway center, Aston Martin Heritage Trust, Dorchester Cathedral, Pendon model railway center, the Oxford museums, Henley Rowing Museum as well as many others interesting places to visit.
