“Outstanding exchange. The eco house absolutely lovely.... warm , well decorated , great garden. We felt at home. Located perfectly for our relaxing 15 days exchange, we used it as the base to visit the east coast of Scotland and Northumberland . We fell in love with the country and the easy going friendly scottish people. Castles, Edinburgh festival, pic nics in spectacular country scenery, we had our best house exchange experience. Maureen and Lorne were helpful and accomodating, leaving for us all useful information to organise our stay. We consider having new Scottish friends now."”
“We were so lucky that our very first house exchange was with Maureen and Lorne, who were so helpful and accommodating. They made the exchange so easy for us, with everything running smoothly from start to finish. Their house is so homely, interesting and comfortable, and their wonderfully friendly cat made it feel like home to us - we couldn\'t have asked for a better exchange. Maureen and Lorne are extremely organised and left us a wealth of information about the local area and beyond, we were so impressed! They are situated very close to the English border so we got to explore much of England as well as Scotland which was such a bonus. November does not seem an obvious time to visit Scotland, however, while cold, it was sunny everyday which meant that the coastal drives were stunning. Why limit yourself to the summer when the weather\'s often nicer later in the year? We cannot rate the Antons and their home highly enough. We were so sad to leave and would happily return tomorrow!”
“Of course highlands are superb! But Scotland boarders are also beautiful with very nice walks in the hills or along coastal paths. The villages nearby are charming. The house of Mauren and Lorne is much more than comfortable, well equipped and warm. Our only regret is not having had the opportunity to meet our guests. Thank you for everything.”
Where is it?
We are ideally located as a touring base, the Scottish Borders has the most beautiful scenery, and we are right on the coastal edge of it.We have the most scenic coastal walks very close to the house. There are excellent golf courses, championship mountain bike courses, and some very fine fishing on the River Tweed, also deep sea fishing from Eyemouth. There is also a dive centre at St Abbs. We have a good village shop and a pub/cafe with special beers live music and a warm welcome. . The nearest town is Eyemouth for shopping 3 miles away and the much larger historic town of Berwick upon Tweed, 8 miles away, with places to eat, drink and shop.It also has a good theatre and film club. Edinburgh is within easy driving distance, about 50 minutes into the centre of the city, with all its attractions and beauty. There are also excellent train links to the cities of Edinburgh, Newcastle and Durham in just over 1 hour from Berwick upon Tweed. There are some lovely walks from the house around the village a beyond, along the coast and we also have bikes you could use during your stay.
