About our home

We have lived in this house since November 2010. It is a timber built Eco House, modern and comfortable and full of a life's collections from our travels. The house is south facing and is full of light, that's why we love it so much. The technology in the house is not complicated and looks after itself. There are 2 main bedrooms upstairs, the master bedroom has a bedroom off it for 2 children and the guest bedroom has a small bedroom off it for one child. There is an additional double bedroom on the ground floor.
The garden is large with a wild life pond and lots of grass for children to play on also a swing and a hammock that can take 5 people, great fun.
We have a Peugeot 307 car and a 2 berth camper van which you could also use to see more of Scotland.
We have 1 elderly cat who sleeps much of the time, she can go to the cattery if you would prefer her not to be around.
I am a bee keeper and have 3 hives, they are kept in the garden, well away from the house. We try to take our holidays when the bees are busy and don't require any attention. Usually early spring time, and after the middle of July until the following early spring are good times for us to take a break.

More about us

  1. We are, Maureen a retired nurse, and Lorne, a Civil Engineer who is also retired. We have two grown up children who live in England, our daughter has a boy aged 6,our son is married with one daughter aged 3, and a baby boy. Despite the miles between us we are a very close family. Lorne and I have always loved to travel and have visited many countries. Exchanging homes is an exciting way to see them and their culture in a more intimate way, rather than being another "tourist". We have had 11 home exchanges since joining, France twice, Reunion Island, Germany three times Spain twice, Holland Italy and South Africa and have enjoyed all of them. Its great to meet the people who we have exchanged with and still keep in touch with some of the families. We would be happy to exchange in the UK and Ireland as well although not summer time. We will consider anywhere across the globe, surprise us.There is often 4 of us, our daughter and our grandson.

Where is it?

Neighbourhood

We are ideally located as a touring base, the Scottish Borders has the most beautiful scenery, and we are right on the coastal edge of it.We have the most scenic coastal walks very close to the house. There are excellent golf courses, championship mountain bike courses, and some very fine fishing on the River Tweed, also deep sea fishing from Eyemouth. There is also a dive centre at St Abbs. We have a good village shop and a pub/cafe with special beers live music and a warm welcome. . The nearest town is Eyemouth for shopping 3 miles away and the much larger historic town of Berwick upon Tweed, 8 miles away, with places to eat, drink and shop.It also has a good theatre and film club. Edinburgh is within easy driving distance, about 50 minutes into the centre of the city, with all its attractions and beauty. There are also excellent train links to the cities of Edinburgh, Newcastle and Durham in just over 1 hour from Berwick upon Tweed. There are some lovely walks from the house around the village a beyond, along the coast and we also have bikes you could use during your stay.
