Our 70s house is our home. It is comfortable and set up for both adults and kids (we have 3 aged 18, 16 and 13). We have chickens, rabbits, dogs (none of which you would HAVE to look after) and wonderful walks on our doorstep across 2 nature reserves, Wrest Park nearby and 50 minutes by train to London, Oxford and Cambridge. The best of both worlds!
We have broadband/WiFi, broadband TV, stereo, iPod dock, a laundry room with washer/dryer, comfortable farmhouse style kitchen with table that seats 10 and range style double oven with hob.
Master bedroom with double bed, anther double, and two singles plus a fully insulated and heated garden room with loft space with mattresses (great for kids' sleepovers) and TV/DVD/playstation, and cross trainer. So we can sleep more than 6 people if wanted.
We have a bathroom with shower over bath and a downstairs cloakroom.
Our neighbours are very friendly and there are local kids to play with plus a park within walking distance and a public indoor pool/ badminton/ squash in the next village (where the train station is, 20 min walk or 5 mins in the car). There are open air pools in nearby towns of Hitchin, Woburn (where the Abbey, Safari Park and Sculpture Gallery are) as well in the village of Eversholt overlooking the cricket pitch (the last two built by the Duke of Bedford for his workers!).
The Georgian Market town of Ampthill is 3 miles away and Wrest Park (http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/daysout/properties/wrest-park/ )with recently restored Gardens and famous House is a bike ride, walk or car journey away ( we virtually live here in the summer, picnicking and walking).
Combine these rural pleasures with the opportunity to visit London with theatres, museums and historic sites and Oxford and Cambride - you really are spoiled for choice. We also like visiting Waddeston and Cliveden as well as other beautiful historic houses. We love this area - it was a revelation to us.
We are a teacher, a public servant and three kids one at University studying French and two slightly younger.
