About our home

Our delightful home is situated in the peaceful village of Ayton. It once was a Victorian sweet shop; it retains the old fashioned front windows, and has two ornate fireplaces. The house is beautifully presented with neutral wall colours and plenty of characterful furnishings. We are situated just minutes away from the impressive coastline, including Coldingham Bay, a popular yet unspoilt beach. Fancy surfing? The bay offers surfing for beginners and pros. If you'd rather just relax and have a picnic, then Coldingham is perfect for that too. There is a very friendly feel within the village of Ayton, and the striking Ayton Castle is across the road from our house. We live just 45 minutes south of Edinburgh, and an hour north of Newcastle. Both cities are full of activities and historical sights for all the family to enjoy. Edinburgh, with its magnificent castle and splendid shopping, cannot fail to impress. Visit in the summer and enjoy the brilliant Edinburgh Fringe Festival - the world's largest arts festival - almost a month of superb entertainment ranging from exciting new theatre productions to comedical and dance pieces. Newcastle is renowned for its bustling nightlife, with a range of buzzing clubs and trendy bars. If you prefer the peace of the countryside, then Northumberland offers the famous Roman Wall and a stunning coastline. Access to Lindisfarne, also known as Holy Island, is about 20 minutes from Ayton, as are the Farne Islands, a favourite for birdwatching and wildlife, as it is crowded with puffins and seals. Fishing on the Tweed and horse riding to the beach are other possible activities in the vicinity. There are plenty of good quality eating places varying from quirky cafes and pubs to fine hotels. The house has a sheltered and private patio area in the back garden where you can enjoy a barbeque or locally caught fish, and chips, from a nearby harbour town!

We are open to non-simultaneous swaps if necessary.

We have bikes which you can use if you fancy cycling, and we are open to swapping cars. Our neighbours are very friendly and will guide you as to the best places to visit. We have a wide screen, web enabled TV with a wide range of channels, DVD player and wi-fi available on your request.

We are excited to home swap and are looking forward to exploring some new places!
