This is a great place for a families to come and stay. Depending on ages and configuration, the house can sleep 10 adults or a couple more if there are children sharing rooms. It is right on the edge of Dartmoor National Park, with excellent walking very nearby and the incredible coastline of the South Hams within a 30min drive (we're happy for people to borrow all the beach kit!). There are also lots of nearby attractions, including the award-winning Pennywell Farm, Otter and Butterfly Sanctuary, South Devon Steam Railway, Totnes Castle and the River Dart Country Park, to name but a few. To be honest, we love nothing more in the summer than walking the dogs in Hembury Woods and wild swimming in the River Dart which runs through them, or taking our sea kayak and BBQ to one of the 'hidden' beaches in the South Hams.
Our house has been recently renovated and has a stunning timber frame extension with a big kitchen diner that opens out on the large garden. Downstairs there is also handy utility room, WC/cloakroom, study (with sofa bed), open plan sitting room (with another sofa bed) and play room. Upstairs there is a master bedroom with en suite and dressing room, family bathroom, spare room with double bed and two kids rooms, which currently have a single bed in each but these could be put together to make bunks and a double floor mattress used in the other. Outside we have plenty of parking (4 cars minimum), garage and shed space, along with a big garden. Our children are now 5 and 7 and we are still well equipped for kids. We have a travel high chair and travel cot which we are happy for people to use.
Buckfastleigh is a pretty little old town and we are just 5minutes walk from the centre where there are several pubs, a well-stocked Co-Op, post office, bistro, take-away, fish & chip shop, Boots, coffee and gift shops and an unusual not-for-profit organic food shop. Despite being so close to the centre the layout of the house and garden make it a very private space and we are not overlooked.
We are open to swaps during peak school holidays (we live here and we have children in school).
