We live in a genuine 15th century, large, Elizabethan house in Creeksea which is some 2 kilometres from Burnham-on-Crouch and the railway station to London; the local golf club is in the lane leading to our house.
Fronted by its own meadow and river, the house is situated on the famous River Crouch; numerous yachts, with their brightly coloured sails passing a few yards away. The house has its own moorings. The white and extensively timbered walls of the house heighten this picturesque scene. Each room four bedrooms, lounge, snuggery, dining room, kitchen and breakfast room are oak-beamed, three of the bedrooms have large en-suite modern bathrooms and dressing areas. The spacious lounge has an open fireplace which, formerly led into a hidden room, used in the 18th century for smuggling.
The house has been extensively redeveloped to retain its unique olde-worlde charm but at the same time provide a comfortable, relaxing, family residence. For example, the large kitchen and breakfast areas have modern appliances. However, only a central candle candelabra lights the dining room, which adds to the charm. You will note that the oil paintings on the wall are modern. The house is oil-fired centrally heated.
We also have a large and beautifully equipped contemporary apartment in the grounds with balcony terraces that have extensive uninterrupted views of the river Crouch. Ideal for that late night cocktail!!
Essex is the driest county in England and in the summer we are very fond of eating breakfast and dinner on the patio or have friends round for a barbecue. There is a plentiful supply of garden furniture. We use the garden for sport, so feel free to use our equipment to play on the lawn, badminton, croquet, boule, half tennis or table tennis.
We can offer a reliable car, which we would be willing to exchange with you. My wife and I have been driving for over 20 years and both of us hold full UK driving licences. We have now lived in Burnham twenty one years and we love it.
