“We had a fantastic home exchange in Chew Stoke: 10 days in August. The village is near a beautiful lake with fantastic views. The ancient city of Bath is only half an hour by car and it's worth paying a long visit. Our children went to the primary school for summer activities and enjoyed them a lot. The house is spacious very comfortable and has everything you could need. Every Mail contact with them was fluent and easygoing. They were very respectful with our house. I highly recommend an exchange with this family.”

About our home
Our detached family home is a large stone cottage with parts dating back to the 1750s. The house is in the village of Chew Stoke http://www.chewstoke.org.uk/ in Somerset 400 yards from Chew Valley Lake. The village is just 12 miles from the historic cities of Bath, 8 miles from Bristol and 11 to Wells and 4 miles from the Mendip hills an area of outstanding natural beauty.
London can be reached in under two hours by road, less by train from either Bristol or Bath. Devon is an hour away by car.
The house has a large kitchen diner, a dining room, a family lounge and a TV room plus a utility room. There are four bedrooms (one double) two single, one spare bedroom that has a single futon bed and will take several mattresses and there is a sofa bed in the lounge. There are three bathrooms. It is a well loved family home.
The old stone solid walls of the original house keep us warm in winter and cool in the summer.
Our rear garden is enclosed and private, mainly laid to grass with mature trees and shrubs and patio area.

Rachel's reviews
As a host (8)“We stayed at this charming historic home in Chew Stoke for two and half weeks in August 2015. All our planned day trips were within 45 minutes to a maximum of two hours (Wales). We then traveled to London for four days and missed the tranquility of the countryside!”
“Our recent stay at this property was a delight. Located in a beautiful part of Somerset surrounded by lots of interesting locations we felt completely relaxed. The accommodation lacked for nothing and the secluded garden was an ideal place for just taking things easy.”
“We spent 3 wonderful weeks in the outskirts of Bath, England last summer! This was a wonderful exchange family! They had prepared the house with an abundant amount of information regarding the surrounding areas and different places to go shopping for local food. The house had wonderful nooks and crannies for each of us to spread out and have our own space after different day trips together. My husband loved running on the winding country roads around the town. It was a fabulous respite from our Hot humid summer at home. I highly recommend an exchange for those who would like to get away from the hubbub of the city or for those who live in hot places (as the weather is delightful in the summer!)”
“Just spent a few days in a lovely house near a lake in the country near the beautiful city of Bath. The local pasties were a treat, the scenery was stunning and we all had a good time: two adults, two teens, a granny and a dog! Highly recommended.”
“Excellent visit -very good exchange and communication Thank you Rachel ”
“We absolutely loved Rachel and David’s home and our stay in Chew Stoke. The home was so comfortable and in a lovely neighborhood with quick access to Bristol, Bath and Wells. Rachel and Dave were so helpful in communicating with us before we arrived, and we also continue to communicate during the exchange. I would highly recommend this exchange with this family. David and Rachel and their two adult children stayed in our home and also left it immaculate. One of our memorable exchanges! ”
“Rachel and her family have a well appointed and historic home in an area of beautiful vistas and friendly people. Rachel and her family took excellent care of our home and made us feel welcome in their home. They provided us with literature and recommendations of local sites, stores, pubs and sight seeing possibilities. The Mendip Hills are wonderful and the history is at every turn. Wells, Bath, Bristol, Cheddar Gorge Salisbury, Avebury, Nunney, Cardiff Wales and the Cotswalds are all within a day trip or less! We thank the Williams family for the chance to visit Chew Stoke and highly recommend an exchange! We would love to meet them in person in the future and share our experiences.”

Neighbourhood
The village of Chew Stoke and neighbouring Chew Magna are thriving rural village communities dating to back to the Doomsday Book of 1086 with many ancient buildings. Between them they have six pubs serving fantastic food, a coffee shop, five Churches (two dating back to the 15th century), a bank, shops, doctors and a garage.
Less than 30 minutes drive will take you to the galleries, museums, theatres and historic buildings of Bristol and Bath check out http://visitbristol.co.uk/ http://www.visitbath.co.uk and http://www.thermaebathspa.com. Both cities have a fantastic range of restaurants many located near to the docks and riverside. They also have some of the best shopping outside of London.
