About our home

Our home was refurbished and extended in 2016 and really has the wow factor with the layout and furnishings. There are stunning views of the garden from the back of the house which has an entire wall of glass doors going out to the large patio. We are 30mins on the train from London Waterloo however Claygate village feels a world away with 7 local pubs, restaurants and the best fishmongers and butchers around amongst other shops. It is a vibrant area with lots of lovely restaurants to eat nearby and things to do.

We have a cat called Haggis who would be resident during your stay! So for that reason we can't have other pets to stay. He is a very easy friendly cat and comes and goes through his flap, just needs feeding.

Ground Floor:
The open living layout comprises a large kitchen with two ovens, warming drawer, American fridge freezer, modern kitchen units and large island with 3 chair breakfast bar and induction hob. Super large sofa and ottoman, smart TV with Netflix, Amazon and Freeview and apps connected. Powerful wireless speaker for TV and music. Log burner and underfloor heating throughout. Dining table seating 10. We also have a snug/music room with TV with Netflix, Amazon and BTSports, and freeview, study, utility with washing machine and dryer and downstairs toilet.

First Floor:

More about us

  1. We are a family of four, with two girls aged 6 and 8 and a cat. We love travelling and would be looking to points swap or direct swap our house during school holidays (see our calendar as our dates are slightly different to usual school holidays).

  2. Doug works in finance and Jo is a busy housewife.

  3. Jo has a good eye for interiors and design. We both love the good life and entertaining and this is the central element in the design of our house. We love our plants and have a large allotment opposite the house (which you are welcome to pick from!)

Neighbourhood

Our house is situated on a leafy quiet road. We are just 10mins walk to the heart of Claygate village and the train station. The train goes to London Waterloo and Guildford directions. Claygate is quite a large village but is well known for its community spirit with lots of events planned throughout the year such as the Flower Show in July, Beer Festival in August and the Claygate Music Festival in March. There are two good pubs 8mins walk away and the recreation ground with a children's playground. The village is surrounded by woodland which has good running and cycling routes. There is a butcher, fishmonger, grocer, baker, supermarket with late opening, deli, gift shops on the parade and 7 pubs within the village. There is a good curry restaurant and Italian place and takeaways in the village. Esher, Thames Ditton and Cobham are all a 5min drive away and also have nice restaurants.

This area is fully covered by Uber. We also have recommendations of babysitters should you wish a night out in the local area or London.

Buzzy restaurants
Plenty of good restaurants a short drive away such as The Swan, Good Earth. We frequently go to French Table in Surbiton and le Petit Nantais in Hampton Court
Cool bars
Lots of bars in the area. In the village we have The Foley but also lots in Esher and Surbiton
Cozy cafés
Lots of lovely cafes everywhere around.
Retail therapy
Kingston and Guildford easy to get to and have loads of shops and vibrant centres. Also we are close to Wimbledon Village and of course London only 30mins
Bit of culture
Hampton Court Palace is a must see. Also lots of places to the south of us are nice.
Walks in the park
Bushy Park, Esher Common and Oxshott Common all really close. Richmond Park 20min drive. The coast is just over 1hr away with the beautiful Witterings beaches.
Spot of exercise
Running, Cycling, Paddle Boarding. Also a good indoor climbing centre nearby, swimming pools, ski centre (outdoor) 5min drive away
Day tripping
London, Wisley, Witterings, Winchester...good spot for south east England! We are 1hr15mins from the Channel Tunnel.
