About our home

Ours is a beautiful 17th century home on a large plot on the banks of the River Foyle in Derry, Northern Ireland - the UK City of Culture. It is just five miles to the city centre and within walking distance of a pub/restaurant, shop and chemist. The beaches of beautiful Donegal are just a few miles away. The house is over three floors and has a sauna, separate dining room, playroom and separate sitting room for the children - complete with Wii. The back garden is completely enclosed and very safe. There is ample parking for three cars. We are a family of six - two grown up children and two younger ones as well as mum and dad. We have a cat which we hope swapees wouldn't mind feeding outside - he does not come in the house. There is oil heating as well as an open fire in the living room and an Aga in the kitchen.

The house is in a beautiful setting overlooking the River Foyle, with a small beach to the front and side. It is a quiet area, down a country lane and next door to the Foyle Yacht Club. It is an easy walk to the pub/restaurant/shop/chemist and ten minutes drive into town. Derry has just been named UK City of Culture so there are many events, theatres, concerts etc to enjoy. Taxis to and from the city are around £5 and there is a bus stop at the end of the lane. We have horses in the field behind the house (not ours). We are very close to the Donegal border and we are a short drive from the Giants Causeway World Heritage Site, Belfast is about 75 miles away. There are flights from Alicante, Salou, Faro, London and Manchester into City of Derry Airport which is a 15minute drive from the house (not in the flight path). We are keen walkers and there are some beautiful walks near the house including a woodland which abounds with red squirrel and even a buzzard. Glenveagh National Park, Mount Errigal and Malin Head are all possible day trips.

My husband and I are both College lecturers (journalism - as we both worked as journalists for many years) We are interested in history, the arts and music. There is a piano which you are welcome to use. My husband is a keen fisherman and will leave rods and details of the best places to go. There are plenty childrens toys, loads of books, DVDs etc
