About our home

Our home offers lovely views of the South Downs in a perfect traditional English village, half a mile from a famous national trust coastline, The Seven Sisters. The village offers a local pub, delicatessen, tea-shop, post office, award-winning butcher and is 5 minutes drive from Eastbourne with many amenities and lovely beaches and half-an-hour drive to cosmopolitan Brighton. Local walks will take you up on the downs with wonderful views of the English Channel, or into the protected woodland of Friston Forest. Beachy Head, with its famous landmark lighthouse and stunning cliff top walk, is within walking distance from the house. Three buses an hour to Eastbourne and Brighton go from bus stops a few minutes walk away. Eastbourne has good rail links to London (90 minute journey).

Our comfortably furnished house is fully equipped and offers one double bedroom and two singles. One of the single bedrooms turns into a twin room when required. Additional sleeping can be provided in the form of a double sofa-bed (designed for two but cosy for sharing!) and two children's floor mattresses if required. (So if you don't mind a squeeze, there's room for 8.) The large kitchen / dining room is great for meals with family and friends, and afterwards you can let the dishwasher do all the work while you pop to our local pub, relax on the sofa, watch TV or a DVD or play on the Wii. Free wifi internet access and an open fire (coal and logs provided in season) are also available.

Four miles away (an easy bus ride from the end of the road) is the seaside town of Eastbourne with its theatres, restaurants, shops and a delightful Victorian seafront. Just over one mile from the house you will find Birling Gap beach - play in the rock pools, race the waves up the shingle and walk the miles of sand at low tide, admiring the views of the famous Seven Sisters chalk cliffs. For a slightly longer walk, explore the South Downs Way which will take you to the iconic Beachy Head and Belle Tout lighthouse and reward you with spectacular cliff-edge views of local towns and the English Channel. Or, stay closer to home with a two-minute walk to one of the prettiest village greens in Sussex and choose a tasty meal at the 15th century village pub, The Tiger Inn, or the classy Thai Terre restaurant. Alternatively, take a stroll through the nearby woodlands of Friston Forest, or drive (or catch the bus / train) along the coast to Brighton for trendy shopping.

Other accommodation includes: downstairs cloakroom, den/study (or additional bedroom), wetroom, family bathroom with shower over bath. Off road parking is available and the garden offers room to play on a large lawn area and two patios for enjoying the lovely views of the South Downs in the perfect traditional English village of East Dean.

Available for your use:
Double oven; hob; fridge freezer; dishwasher; food mixer; toaster; kettle; washing machine; tumble-dryer; downstairs loo; TV; Sky; DVD; Wii; open fire; wetroom; shower; bath and a wide range of toys, books and DVDs. We can usually make one of our cars available to guests, if requested.

About us: we are a family of four (our two children are a daughter, 11, and a son, 7). We love sightseeing, walking, eating good food, reading, the countryside, nature, swimming. Henry is a local government manager and Jane is an independent education advisor. We have three cats called Jem, Maggie, and Mabel, who would need to be fed during your stay!

We are experienced home-exchangers and will do everything possible to ensure your smooth arrival arrangements and key swap, as well as looking after your house as we would our own. Looking forward to hearing from you!
