About our home

Our large, stone built detached Edwardian house has river and hill views, and is on the edge of Kendal - 15 minutes drive from Windermere. The house is in a quiet private road although from the rear there is easy access to the main road. There are 4 double bedrooms, and a fifth room that we use as an upstairs lounge. Three of the bedrooms have good double beds (one is vast, the others are normal sized, but very comfortable), and the fourth is set up with 2 single beds, and has a third 'pop-up' bed. Two downstairs lounges - one with wood burning stove, large garden. The front lounge has views of the river Kent and the hills. The dining room / lounge overlooks the garden. There is a large patio in the back garden, with a BBQ. The kitchen is fairly modern. The upstairs bathroom has a shower, bath and toilet, the downstairs one has a shower and toilet. There is loads of off-street parking and a garage.

We have a collection of bikes that you'd be welcome to use - a couple of men's road and mountain bikes, and a couple of children's bikes to fit early teenagers. We can also leave backpacks and other useful stuff.

Easy walk to Kendal town centre - where there is theatre (Brewery Arts Centre), Cinema, cafes and restaurants. Easy drive to Windermere, Ambleside, Grasmere and other classic Lake District locations. Train or drive to Lancaster City - where there is a castle and a wider selection of shops - about 30 mins by car. London 3 hours by train. Small gym with bike, rowing machine, and running machine.

We are a family of 3 - I work in leadership development, and am a single parent to my 2 daughters aged 11 and 14. I have brought them up alone for the past 9 years. The girls are very 'outdoorsy' and both love sailing, climbing and hills. My partner might travel with us - she does the same sort of work, and also teaches yoga and pilates, and her son is 9.

I'd be really grateful if we could leave our cat behind at our house during the swap - she isn't much trouble but she doesn't like catteries.

Where is it?

Kendal is a lovely little town - often voted one of the best places to live in the UK, close to Windermere and the lake, where there are great restaurants and boat trips. And you can wal;k the fells from Windermere, or from Ambleside - just up the road. This area is really beautiful - the Lake Distrcit is a World Heritage site. And as well as the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales National park is just to the East - Sedbergh is about 30 mins drive. And Scotland can be reached by road - about 90 mins, or the train to Glasgow from Kendal Oxenholme Station is just under 2 hours, and about the same to Edinburgh. London is about 3 hours by train.
