“We had a non-simultaneous exchange with Barbara. We went to Abington in July 2017 and Barbara with two friends came over to Stockholm in May 2018. My husband and I enjoyed Barbara's house, which is nice, large, well-kept and comfortable. The kitchen and dining room have a lovely view on the garden which can be appreciated through the wall-size window panes. We met Barbara and David personally and they were very friendly and helfpful. We also met and talked to their neighbours, who were also kind and friendly with us. We were given detailed instructions and suggestions and we felt at home. Abington is very close to Oxford. It is an enjoyble little village on the river. There is a bus service connecting Abington to Oxford. We also used the large parking spaces outside Oxford, which is indeed a crowded city during the summer, due to huge numbers of tourists and international students taking summer courses. Oxford is fascinating. I visited some of the several colleges, which are astonishing buildings where tradition gets smoothly along with modern life. I also took some guided tours in the city itself, while my husband rented a bike and cycled along the Thames. We also visited several famous locations in the region that are easily reachable from Abington/Oxford, such as the Windsor Castle (the historical royal British residence with its royal church and gardens) and Blenheim Palace, where Winston Churchill was born (it is a monumental English country house and now it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site). We are very happy with the exchange.”
Where is it?
Abingdon is a medium sized town (population 35,000)on the River Thames, with a good range of facilities both in the town and nearby. Oxford is eight miles away and there are good train links from there and Didcot to most parts of the UK. There is also a frequent bus service from Oxford to London (approx 90 minutes)
The house is in a quiet and friendly street and overlooks a cricket/rugby pitch at the back. We have a garden, barbecue and paved terrace as well as outside table and chairs.
