About our home

We live in a beautiful Tudor, Grade II listed long house, painted in traditional Suffolk pink, and situated in a small village about 5 minutes outside the bustling market town of Bury St Edmunds (population about 40,000). The house is set well back from the road in grounds of about one-third of an acre. The original house dates back to the 16th century and offers an exposed timber-framed interior, two inglenook fireplaces, Suffolk latch doors and exposed lath and wattle and daub features. We have a large garden, a new garden room, an outside terrace area for summer sitting and eating, as well as two double bedrooms and one single (or double) bedroom (with one full size bed and one small single bed) There are two bathrooms and a shower room, a sitting room (with Sky TV), dining room, study and sunny kitchen. There is ample off-road parking, and a large garage, gas central heating for colder months, and two wood-burning stoves downstairs. The internet connection is excellent, reliable and very fast. The house is near the village pub, which provides excellent food and drink, if required.

More about us

  1. Retired couple who love travelling

  2. We are both retired teachers - Jack taught German and French and I taught English - and we worked in Yorkshire and the Lake District as well as Germany, Australia and China. We love travelling and especially living in the community when we are on holiday, rather than in a hotel. We have 2 daughters and 6 grandchildren who we love to see often as they now live quite close to us in North London and Suffolk. Occasionally some of the family or friends may come with us on holiday.

  3. Main likes: walking, gardening, music & family
