About our home

First and foremost, our cottage is available anytime during the UK 2010 summer months as we are prepared to vacate and live with a relative, but we do have specific dates to swap in Australia. Our house is a modernised stone built cottage (built in 1866) but still retaining many of its original features; exposed polished floorboards, thick walls with deep recesses, low ceilings, quarry stone floor in the kitchen. An upstairs study could be used as a fourth bedroom for one with supplied Z ? bed (allowing 6 in total to sleep). The ground floor has separate living room, dining room, kitchen, and utility room plus a second bathroom and a conservatory. The latter overlooks a garden with a lawn, flowerbeds, a patio and a pond.

More about us

  1. We are Liz and Mike a married couple with 3 grown up daughters who have all settled in Australia. We are in our early 60's and recently retired. Mike a food chemist and a keen angler, Liz a hospital ward clerk and an enthusiastic walker and swimmer. Our middle daughter is getting married in Australia next February and hopefully we can experience our first house swap at this time. During March we would like to houseswap in the Port Stephens/Nelson Bay location. We look forward to further house swapping in the future.

Where is it?

The cottage is on the outskirts of the market town of Frome in Somerset (on the borders of Dorset and Wiltshire). The market is still held every Wednesday and Saturday. We are blessed with numerous country pubs. Frome is just 12 miles from the world heritage city of Bath with its Roman Baths and Georgian crescents. A 10 minute car journey takes you to the Longleat estate of Lord Bath and also nearby is the magnificent Stourhead estate. Frome is also close to Stonehenge, the village of Cheddar and its famous Caves, Wooky Hole and the cathedral cities of Wells and Salisbury. The city of Bristol, an hour's drive, has Brunel's Suspension Bridge and many other attractions. For coastal scenery Bournmouth and Studland are just over an hour away. London can be reached in 2 hours by car. Alternatively Frome has a railway station.
