About our home

Our 3-bedroom house is on a very quiet residential estate in the famous village of Grantchester, frequented in past times by the "Bloomsbury literary set", home to the famous Orchard tea rooms and Byron's pool, and located only 2 miles from Cambridge. The village recently featured in the TV murder mystery series called "Grantchester" which was filmed in the church, pubs, vicarage and high street. It is close to the river Cam and a cycle/walking path leads across the totally unspoilt water meadows to Cambridge, with beautiful views of the river and occasional sightings of cows and swans. Grantchester has 4 authentic village pubs as well as the tea room and a beautiful Parish church dating back to 1200.

The house is well furnished with a keen eye for contemporary design and decorated with artefacts from our travels around the world. It has a master bedroom with a queen sized bed on a mezzanine and a dressing area and workspace below, a spacious middle bedroom with a 4 ft 6 double bed, and a further single room. The large living room (with really comfortable 6-7 seater sofa, flat screen TV, DVD player and X-box games console) opens via tri-fold doors into a conservatory/breakfast room with terracotta tiles, underfloor heating and an electric piano. French doors open onto a hexagonal wooden deck and the compact but professionally designed garden. The kitchen is small but largely new and very well equipped (including full-size dishwasher, microwave, electric cooker with halogen hob and 2 ovens, fridge, food processor, filtered water tap, ample pots and pans, crockery & utensils), opening onto a spacious dining area. There is an up to date tiled bathroom with bath and power shower upstairs and a separate downstairs toilet, plus utility area with freezer and new washing machine. Oil-fired central heating throughout makes the house really cosy.

Quality bicycles plus reliable and spacious 4-wheel drive car (Honda CR-V) may be available (if you can get your own car insurance). Games, books etc. available for older kids. A lovely safe playground/recreation ground is at the end of our no-through-road, surrounded by fields, making this an ideal environment for children of all ages. Free on-street parking is available in front of the house.

Cats: We have two gorgeous, young male Burmese cats called Merlin & Mango whose care is part of the deal. They are incredibly affectionate, tolerant and love to meet new people. They make great family pets and are very entertaining. (However if anyone has a cat allergy you should not come as Burmese in particular do cause reactions.)

Non-smokers only please. Cleaner can be arranged.

Our house is available for a points trip or non-simultaneous swap from September 23 to October 3, 2018.
