About our home

Our home is a spacious, 4 bedroom Victorian house situated midway between London and Cambridge, and 10 minutes from London Stansted airport, in the historic market town of Great Dunmow.

The house has been completely refurbished over the last year to include a Shaker style kitchen, bathroom with roll top bath and an outside decking space, perfect for entertaining.

Set over 4 floors, our large, family home is light and airy with a host of period features. It comprises of 2 bedrooms on the first floor (one double, one twin) and 1 double bedroom on the 2nd floor. There is another room on the ground floor that is used as a snug with a TV and sofa bed but can be a 4th bedroom if needed.

As well as having a large sitting room with an open fire, we also have a playroom/TV room on the lower ground floor next to the kitchen. We have plenty of toys to entertain younger guests!

Our lovely Sunroom has French doors leading onto the South facing garden - the decking area is a great place to relax and socialise.

The historic market town of Great Dunmow is ideally situated midway between London and Cambridge in the English countryside (40 minutes from each) and only 10 minutes from London Stansted Airport if you wanted to enjoy short trips to other European countries during your stay or ideal if you are visiting us from Europe!

  3. We love travelling the world and seeing amazing places! We are also interested in fashion, music, interior design and popular culture.

Where is it?

We live in the historic market town of Great Dunmow, in the Essex countryside. The house is a 5 minute walk from the town centre which is full of independent shops and cafes. We also own a Lifestyle Store in the town, The Shopkeeper ( which sells men's clothing as well as carefully curated goods for the home.

Our home overlooks 'The Downs' - a lovely, large green space with a big duck pond, and is also opposite the Recreation Ground, which has a children's playground and skate park.

Great Dunmow is a 40 minute drive from London. We will drive to Westfield in Stratford (large shopping centre) and park there if we want to travel into London (I commute in daily). Stratford has a tube & train station which can take you to many destinations in and around London. Alternatively, the nearest tube station is at Epping (20 min drive) which is on the Central Line into London.

The nearest train station is either Stansted airport, which you can take a bus/taxi to, or Bishops Stortford which is a 20 min drive (they both have a direct train into central London which takes 35 mins, and also to Cambridge and other UK destinations).

We also only 40 minutes from the beautiful and historic University city of Cambridge which is really lovely to spend a day at, either exploring the rivers and architecture, or for a spot of shopping, eating in one of the many great restaurants, going to the cinema, watching some live music, etc. Other nearby areas include Saffron Walden, Chelmsford and Bishops Stortford (all 20 mins).

There are so many options for exploring the wonderful English countryside nearby too - Hatfield Forest is also a lovely National Trust site nearby if you would like to spend some time in the fresh, country air, and is only a 10 minute drive away. There are lots of Country Parks and stately homes in the area too - Audley End House & Gardens, The Henry Moore Foundation, etc. Cammas Hall Farm is great in the Summer months - you can pick your own fruit and enjoy lunch outside.

The wide, Sandy beach at Frinton is also brilliant for children, and only an hour's drive. The picturesque counties of Suffolk and Norfolk are also neighboring and very popular for their beaches, camping and the Norfolk Broads.

If you want to explore further afield, Stansted Airport is only 10 minutes away and has cheap flights to most destinations in Europe.

Buzzy restaurants
The Green Man, Howe St - owned by Michelin Starred Galvin Brothers - is a lovely country pub with a fantastic restaurant, great food, and a large garden.
Cool bars
We have lots of traditional country pubs nearby (and one bar, The Flitch House), but if you are looking for lots of cool bars then head to London or Cambridge for the night.
Cozy cafés
Meadow Hill in the town serves delicious lunches
Retail therapy
The Shopkeeper in Dunmow! Otherwise Chelmsford, Cambridge or London are all within driving distance.
Bit of culture
The Henry Moore Foundation (Studio & Gardens) and the English Heritage site, Audley End Gardens are both nearby. Otherwise head to Cambridge or London for museums, galleries and historical sights.
Walks in the park
So many options rot explore the wonderful English countryside! Hatfield Forest is lovely to explore as has extensive forest areas and a large lake. Promenade Park in Maldon is also great for the kids - it has a large park with a splash park too. Marks Hall also has beautiful, extensive gardens and Great Notley County Park is excellent too. Or just pop to the large park and playground opposite the house!
Spot of exercise
Cycle around Hatfield Forest or go swimming/to the gym at the local leisure centre. There are also pilates, yoga, barre, etc classes in the local town.
Day tripping
Colchester Zoo is better than London Zoo! Or the beach at Frinton or Promenade Park in Maldon.
