Our house is a traditional 1927 family home in a designated "Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty" in the Surrey Hills, with a 1.25 acre garden, 180 degree countryside views, and a private tennis court. Traditional furnishings, large kitchen/diner with electric range cooker, 2 fridges, freezer, washing machine, spin dryer, dishwasher, microwave.
The downstairs comprises: large kitchen/diner with 2 sets of french doors opening onto the terrace facing east and south. Seperate dining room, living room with open fireplace, sunroom, playroom/den, entrance hall, computer area and 2 toilets. Most of the rooms face south with lovely views. We have 2 TVs, 2 DVD players, a cross trainer, table football, digital piano, lots of DVDs, board games, books, etc.
Upstairs there is a double aspect master bedroom suite consisting of bedroom, dressing room and bathroom with shower. There are 4 other bedrooms (2 with double and 2 with single beds), all with fabulous views. Also a landing, study and 2 other bathrooms (1 with shower).
A cleaner comes once a week.
Within 5 minutes in the car (20 minutes walk) you are in the centre of Guildford. A busy town with multi-screen cinema, theatre, nightclubs, restaurants, fabulous shopping, etc. It is an old historic town with a pedestrianised, cobbled high street with little roads off it. Also ancient castle ruins, gardens and a lovely river running through it.
However, when you are at our house you feel as though you are in the heart of the country. We are on a hill, set back from a narrow little lane, and can only see a couple of other houses and a farm further down so it is very quiet and peaceful. We are surrounded by fields, and have a wonderful view of over sheep, hills and trees, stretching into the far distance at either end of the valley. There are masses of fabulous walks, and The North Downs Way (a national walking/cycling route) runs nearby.
London is about 37 minutes train ride away from Guildford station, which is 10 minutes in the car. So it is easily accessable to enjoy all the sights, museums, theatres, etc. while staying in a lovely out-of-town location.
We are also an hour or so from the south coast, Stonehenge, Hampton Court, Windsor Castle, Winchester, Brighton, the New Forest, the north and south downs, Wimbledon, Brighton, Portsmouth historic ships, Chessington World of Adventures, Thorpe Park, Legoland - lots of day trips to suit all tastes!
We are a family of 5. Bobby, who is an economist, loves walking, bird watching, golf and playing tennis. Vivien works for a small local charity, play bridge and like to read a lot on holiday. Katrina works for Ford as a graduate trainee, Emily is at university studying engineering, and Lucy is at High School.
We also all enjoy new places, sightseeing, swimming, sunbathing, eating out and spending time together as a family.
We have 2 cats. A very friendly (even needy) cream burmese called Mindy, who would hate to be left with no company when we are on holiday, and Leo, a beautiful white cat.
