About our home

****LOOKING FOR A SWAP IN APRIL 2023 - PARIS, ROME, LISBON, MADRID BUT OPEN TO OTHER DESTINATIONS****

Our lovely 3 bedroom detached home is modern, cosy and comfortable and well laid out with a spacious interior and bright and airy throughout. The lounge features windows looking out on to two aspects and the south facing kitchen/diner to the opposite side offers another perfect space to relax and dine with sliding patio doors to the south facing garden which is sunny all day. The ground floor also features a WC and utility room with washing machine. Upstairs the main bedroom with king size bed features built in wardrobes and an ensuite with shower and there are two other bedrooms, one with a single bed and one with a sofa bed. There is also a family bathroom with bath and shower.

Our house has all the modern conveniences you would expect and our garden is a lovely space in which to relax and unwind with a 6 seater dining set, L shaped sofa, bbq and firepit. Our daughter's trampoline and gymnastic bar are not the most attractive but provide hours of fun for any child visiting and they will also have the use of a bike and two different scooters.

Our well equipped kitchen has an induction hob with separate oven, microwave, dishwasher and fridge freezer as well as many appliances and utensils. Our most recent purchase which we love is the Ninja soup maker which also does sauces, smoothies and milkshakes and for coffee lovers we have a cafetiere and percolator.

There is parking for two cars in our drive/car port and we would be happy to offer one of our cars for use if that would be of interest. We also have two adult bikes, it takes less than 10 minutes to cycle into the town.

More about us

  1. We are Steven, Ruth, Ella and Alfie. Steven is Scottish and I am Northern Irish, we're in our 40s. Ella is our 7 year old daughter and Alfie is our 13 year old Yorkshire terrier.. We love living in Haddington, it has a really nice, friendly atmosphere and is ideally located within the beautiful East Lothian countryside and with easy access to Edinburgh.

  2. Steven is a motion designer and Ruth works at a local University and is also training to become a Counsellor. We did our first swap in December 2022 and it couldn't have been better. We are keen to travel as much as we can and feel like this is an exciting way to do it. The idea of others getting to experience our lovely home and all that the area has to offer makes us feel happy too.

  3. We love nature and the outdoors - walking, cycling and wild swimming at the local beaches. We enjoy going for coffee and cake and lunches around East Lothian. Steven is a (very) keen golfer and member of Gullane Golf Club and Ruth enjoys cooking, fitness and meditation.

Where is it?

Neighbourhood

Safe and quiet neighbourhood close to Haddington town centre and recently opened retail park within 5 minute walk including petrol station, food retailers and two coffee shops.

East Lothian boasts over 40 miles of stunning coastline, rolling countryside, pristine beaches, award winning attractions and exceptional food and drink. We are lucky enough to be just a 10 minute drive from many of East Lothian's gorgeous towns and beaches as well as world class golfing at Gullane, Archerfield and Muirfield.

Buzzy restaurants
The Waterside is beautifully positioned by the river, serves food day and night. Many of the surrounding towns are home to pubs/restaurants worth visiting including the Bonnie Badger in Gullane run by Michelin star chef Tom Kitchin, the Main Course in Gullane (welcoming, family run Italian), La Potiniere is a fine dining award-winning restaurant also in Gullane. North Berwick also offers a good range of dining options - Osteria (Italian), Herringbone (buzzy bistro), The Grange Steakhouse to name but a few. Dunbar has a great pizza place called Hectors and the Crown and Kitchen in East Linton is also good.
Cool bars
We would recommend Edinburgh for 'cool bars' but locally The Green and The Waterside are the nicest pubs.
Cozy cafés
The Loft is a favourite of ours, fab cakes as well as delicious breakfast/brunch and lunches. Cafe Luca and Falko are also fab! It's worth a trip to Drift in North Berwick for the breathtaking views over the Firth of Forth Coast and the Bass Rock and we love visiting Bostock Bakery in East Linton for their fabulous sour dough, pastries and coffees. There are many options in the area :)
Retail therapy
Haddington has a nice selection of independent shops and we are only a 15 minute drive from Fort Kinnaird Retail Park which has everything you need and more including a selection of restaurants and a cinema.
Bit of culture
Tantallon Castle, John Muir Park, Scottish Seabird Centre, National Museum of Flight, Dirleton Castle, Yellowcraigs, Lammermuir Hills, Bass Rock, Dunbar Castle, Myreton Motor Museum
Walks in the park
A brand new playpark has opened in Haddington so ideal for kids. The river walk is beautiful, look out for the ducks, swans, heron and otters. John Muir Country Park in Dunbar is located on a beautiful stretch of coastline and supports a wide range of habitats, birds and plants.
Spot of exercise
The local sports centre has a swimming pool, gym and runs fitness classes and there is a pay as you go option. The railway path from Haddington to Londniddry is popular with cyclists, runners and walkers (10 miles).
Day tripping
The options are endless.....
