About our home

We have agreed our Summer 2018 swap. However, we also have a lot of points we are happy to use if you are interested :)

Our house is a large detached property (about 200m2) situated less than 300m walk from a lovely pebble beach, which are part of the Saxon Shore Walks and cycling path. Our paved driveway can easily accommodate up to four cars, and has a large double garage.

On the ground floor, there is two double bedrooms, a bathroom with shower, a large family room ( 60m2) with two 55 inches TV and a luxury open plan kitchen dinner and lounge with wine cooler, and a big roof lantern which opens via folding doors to a large garden with mature trees, terrace and barbecue facilities. There is another large room (about 40m2) which has a cosy/ formal area with Chesterfield sofa and a game room with flat screen TV, DVD player and a pool and football table!

On the first floor, you will find two bedrooms. One bedroom with twin beds with en-suite with a bath, and the master bedroom with its own en-suite with a luxury double end bath and high end fittings. There is a day bed that can be converted in a cot bed if needs be in the master.
We can provide two high chairs and a multitude of toys and equipment for the little ones!

Herne Bay has a beautiful promenade along the sea front with a sunken garden, a bandstand, and a pier where you will find a traditional carousel, entertainments and huts. Bike rides are a must and it will allow you to discover the neighboring coastal towns (Whitstable, Birchington, Broadstairs). We can lend you two adults and two children bikes!
Historic Canterbury is only a short drive away where you will enjoy visiting its cathedral or follow the path of famous writers as Marlowe or Chaucer. Kent is also Dickens' home and you could easily trace his footsteps from Rochester to Broadstairs.
Restaurants, pubs, cafes are plentiful but if you want a city shot, we are only 1h30 by train or 1 hour drive from London. For more information visit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uyHA5g9_tIU

TIP: For our long distance travelling...or even Europe we use London Gatwick as it is direct from London Victoria to Herne Bay. Heathrow and Stansted are a short 60/80 mns drive away.
TIP 2: Our international train station Ashford is 30 mns away and you can easily travel to France from there or if you prefer you can catch a ferry from Dover or the Eurotunnel.

More about us

  1. We are a couple in their forties with 7 years old twins!

  2. Jaz is a teacher and so am I, so we are able to travel during our school holidays. We started swapping in April 2014 and have now completed 15 swaps which have been fantastic!

  3. We have a real passion for Asia and stayed in Thailand, and Bali already but would love to broaden our repertoire from 2019. We are real foodies (even the twins!) and absolutely love diving and snorkeling.

Where is it?

Neighbourhood

Buzzy restaurants
Plenty around and some top places in Herne Bay (check tripadvisor.com!!)
Cool bars
Some local pubs (with gardens which are great for kids) or cool trendy bars in Canterbury
Cozy cafés
There is a lovely vegetarian cafe here or coffee places on the sea front to chill and have a homemade ice cream
Retail therapy
Canterbury is a short drive away or for a real shopping trip out why not try Bluewater? It is the biggest covered mall in Europe!
Bit of culture
Canterbury Cathedral is a must, but all the villages around are the perfect British picture places! (some vilages are often used as set for films like Jane Austen!)
Walks in the park
An immense park in Herne Bay will satisfy the little ones (and the ducks!), but you could also go to some more formal walks in Goodnestone Garden Park.
Spot of exercise
We love going jogging along the sea front or biking along the Coastal Trail. Swimming is lovely too (but in the summer only...except if you really really brave!)
Day tripping
Canterbury, all the fishing/sea villages or of course London. If France tickles your fancy it's only 1 hour away via eurotunnel!
