History rich Kent boasts stunning castles, gardens and stately homes and maritime heritage. We are just 5 minutes walk, through the fields at the back of the house, from Leeds Castle - our neighbour - described by Lord Conway as "the loveliest castle in the world". You will never forget your first breath taking vision of the castle as it rises from the moat where its stood for the last 900 years. We have royal connections - in the 13th century it was King Edward I favourite residence and in the 16th century Henry VIII made changes to accommodate his first wife Catherine of Aragon.
Our beautiful family home stands in its own grounds in the small village of Hollingbourne. We have 4 double bedrooms, 2 of which have ensuite bathrooms plus family bathroom. 2 lounges - perfect if you have teenage children - dining room great for entertaining and a large study where unfortunately we tend to spend most of our time working. Good WIFI throughout the house and flat screen TVs. The modern galley style kitchen is well equipped and leads through to the breakfast room and conservatory which opens up into the garden - perfect for summer parties and barbecues.
The village has strong ties to the castle through the Culpepper family which once owned it with ancestral links to the Culpepper Estates in America. Other world famous sites close by include Hever Castle and Penshurst Place.
The location is perfect just to the South of the Kent Downs close to the Pilgrims Way (Chaucers Canterbury Tales) on which you can walk, cycle or horse ride to Canterbury. The county town of Maidstone is 5 miles away for shopping and restaurants or you may prefer the village and country pubs which serve excellent food.
London is 1 hour away by train from the village station, less than 5 minutes walk away, we commuted to the city and its easy to enjoy everything the capital has to offer - art, culture, sights, restaurants and sporting events. You also have access to the motorway network and can get to the Kent coast and rest of the countryside and places of interest. Canterbury city and the magnificent cathedral are 30 minutes drive as is Rochester cathedral, the second oldest in the country, and the historical Medway dockyards. Gain insights into the lives of Charles Dickens, Churchill and Darwin. Dover is also 30 minutes with castle and ferry ports or channel tunnel for day trips to France or Belgium or take the high speed train to Paris for the weekend.
