“Richard and Pia made us very welcome in their lovely home. We mellowed into the house and garden which is characterful and comfortable with everything we needed. The location suited us with a pub almost next door, bird watching on the doorstep, St Ives in walking distance yet in a quiet and attractive village away from it all! We visited National Trust properties near by. We had so much to do locally that we did not go into Cambridge. Richard was a good communicator and gave us lots of useful information to help us make the most of our stay. If you love old buildings and countryside, this homeswap is perfect for you. We loved it.”

About our home
Our 16th century Thatched house is situated in the village of Holywell on the Northern bank of the Great River Ouse, which is a traditional ring village. It's name derives from the ancient spring which can be seen next to the 13th century Church.
It faces directly onto an uninterrupted vista of a water meadow, where you can see Heron's, Swans and other birdlife from the house.
For those interested in Wildlife, Fen Drayton Lakes and Ouse fen lie on the other side of the river from Holywell.
At the end of the ring (three minutes walk from the house) is the Ferryboat Inn, which claims to be the oldest inn in England.
We are Located 16 miles from the Historic University city of Cambridge with it's Beautiful buildings, Punting and many entertainment and dining opportunities, which you can either drive to, or take the Guided bus only three miles from our house.
We are three miles from the Historic market town of St Ives, with it's 14th century Chapel Bridge and twice weekly open market in the High Street.
London is just under an hour by train from Huntingdon. We are just under 9 miles to the train station.
Eighteen miles away is Ely, with the highly recommended 11th Century Ely Cathedral, regarded as one of the most beautiful buildings of the Middle ages, Please see photos. You would need a car (or catch Taxis) if planning trips out as we are not within walking distance of public transport.
Our Home has a total of 190 square meters of living space. A large sloping rear garden with a fruit orchard and a large paved area for outdoor entertaining (Sorry,No BBQ's allowed due to Thatched roof).
It consists of three large double bedrooms (one with en suite bathroom), Kitchen is fully equipped with a modern country style Kitchen.
There is Fibre optic Broadband, flatscreen TV smart TV, conservatory opening onto rear garden.
The house swap includes our cat Lilly. She is very sociable and would appreciate your care and attention. She is used to cat sitters. She needs minimal input as there is a cat flap. She needs feeding in the morning and evening, but otherwise has dry food that just needs topping up.

“We really enjoyed our stay at Richard and Pia’s house. As you would expect in a 400 year old thatched cottage it really interesting inside and they have many interesting pieces of art. Their home is comfortable and has everything we needed. There was lots of information on things to do in and around their area. They live quite close to the wonderful of city of Cambridge and St Ives which we walked to and is very pretty. Their house is on a lovely run of thatched cottages with a pub at the end of the road. One of the things we loved was sitting in the lounge and watching an owl fly low across the field opposite. We also saw a deer in their large back garden which is great for sitting out in. We visited Stamford on the way down, Cambridge, St Ives, a couple of National Trust sites and did a fantastic circular walk from St Ives through some great villages and past Houghton Mill. The village of Houghton (really handy) is lovely. We also decided to strike out and drove to the Suffolk Coast and had a fantastic day at Aldebrough. It’s a lovely location and we had a great holiday and on our return our house was just as we left it and Richard and Pia were very friendly and easy to communicate with. ”
“We had a lovely 11-night stay at Richard and Pia's beautiful home in Holywell. The house is huge with plenty of room, including fully equipped kitchen, dining room, study, lounge, conservatory, 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. The garden is particularly beautiful and there's even an orchard with fresh fruit at this time of year! There are plenty of walks straight from the house and stunning views across the field in front of the house. We did a 9-mile walk straight from the house. There are nice pubs and restaurants in the area and it's not too far from Cambridge. Thanks very much!”
“Richard and Pia were really easy to accomodate in my house - they were very communicative without being over-the-top. Best of all though they seemed to make the most of their stay - they were interested in what was going on locally, the local culture, things to see and do and always seemed to be out exploring, which meant that I never felt that I had to come up with things for them to do - they were happy to crack on and needed very minimal communication during their stay. They left my place immaculately clean and were very respectful of my place. Overall, a hugely positive experience for my first swap - I would have no hesitation in recommending Richard and Pia as guests.”
