About our home

Our house is a converted old Sussex Barn and it is a spacious and comfortable family home. We have been here for nearly 40 years! Great for entertaining and family gatherings, both of which we do a lot of. As active grandparents it is also child friendly with stair gates on both staircases (one staircase runs from the kitchen up to the master bedroom). We have high chairs (2), a cot bed (bought new in the last 4 years), toys galore, table tennis and a pool table for older children not to mention climbing frames, swings, slides, trampolines in a large outdoor area in one of our fields away from the house (we sell outdoor toys through the summer months March-August so the house is not currently available during those months).

We have 5 bedrooms., 2 bathrooms (one ensuite) and a downstairs loo by the back door. Our front door takes you into the hall with piano. Turn left and you come to a small computer area and a door leading into the sitting room with open fireplace and widescreen TV with Netflix, Apple and Now TV.. Back to the hall, if you turn right you come to a large L shaped room which is our dining room and a little reading room when it's not a playroom with lovely views and French doors leading onto a patio with large gas BBQ. Continue through the dining room to the kitchen, boot room, downstairs loo and back door. Off the kitchen we also have a further barn approx 25 metres long (we call it "the barn"!) and our 11ft (with extension making it 15ft) dining table makes it a great place for entertaining. Access to our lovely garden is via sliding French doors or the french doors at the end where the pool table is. This takes you to the patio with outdoor table and chairs for 8 and a fabulous view onto open fields and gorgeous countryside. Access to upstairs can be either from the kitchen or the sitting room. The kitchen stairs lead up to the master bedroom with en suite bathroom with bath and shower. A small single bedroom leads off the master bedroom which is great when our granddaughter stays overnight. There is also another double bedroom which can access the single room too so making it suitable for guests with a child. If necessary you can walk through this double room to get to the other side of the house where there are 2 more double rooms, one with double bed (currently the cot bed is in here but it can be easily moved to the little single room or dismantled if not needed) the other with twin beds. A bathroom with large shower (no bath) is halfway down the stairs that lead to the sitting room.

More about us

  1. We are Nick and Angie, with 3 grown up children and 4 grandchildren. Nick is a retired dairy farmer and now runs the business Angie started 25 years ago selling outdoor toys. We only operate this through the summer months which frees us up in the winter to travel.. We love being active grandparents with our 2 little granddaughters who live fairly nearby. Our eldest son lives in Sydney with our daughter in law and 2 little grandsons and we try to visit them once a year, occasionally twice. We love good food and wine, big get togethers, having all the family in one place, our grandchildren, Christmas, our timeshare in Barbados, our 2 labradors, tennis, the theatre, sudoku...

Where is it?

Albourne is a small village in rural mid Sussex, a 5 minute drive from Hurstpierpoint, a lovely village with shops, pubs and restaurants. We are tucked away almost at the end of Church Lane (the lovely 13th Century Church is at the end of the lane which is a no through road). We are a 10 minute drive to Hassocks train station which has regular trains to Gatwick airport, London Victoria and London Bridge and also Brighton. The journey to London Victoria can be under an hour depending on what train you get and 10 mins to Brighton. Gatwick airport is only a 25 minute drive away and in the opposite direction Bighton is a 20 minute drive. Our location makes it very easy to go to London for a days shopping or visit to art galleries, museums etc, and there is nothing nicer than getting back in the evening and sitting outside in the garden with a glass of wine in total peace and quiet! We often go up to London for dinner and theatre and nearly always let the train take the strain.
