About our home

Our home is comfortable, fresh and newly decorated, easy to clean, warm and welcoming. It has a new well-appointed kitchen with all mod cons, and separate dining room. The conservatory overlooks a neat walled back yard that is private, with a view of the garden and lots of flowers. Partly shaded by trees that offer privacy. I love spending time in my home and garden, and having friends over for a glass of wine. It's warm and inviting, comfortable and modern. Although not a large home there is plenty of space for entertaining because of the large lounge at the front of the house and conservatory to relax in at the rear. I also have a garage, and front garden with shrubs, plants and decorative stones. Situated in a quiet cul-de-sac, no through traffic, quiet and safe neighbourhood with friendly neighbours.

More about us

  1. I have experienced home-exchange before and found this to be a great way to enjoy a holiday. I work full time at the University of Edinburgh and look forward to taking time out to travel, and this coming year have hopes to go to New York with my daughter to visit my son for christmas, and later to travel to Italy in the spring to visit family. I sing Alto in a local choir and love music and the theatre. Edinburgh and Glasgow are full of theatres, concert halls, cinemas open all year round. The Edinburgh Festival has just recently come to an end (August) and I have enjoyed many shows this year as I do every year. The next big event will be a Scottish Christmas & Hogmany in the Capital and I hope to do a house swap so I may enjoy a New York Christmas and a house exchanger can enjoy the delights of a traditional time here. Kirknewton is lucky enough to usually get snow so we often enjoy a white Christmas. There is also a church in the village for those who choose to take part in a Christmas carol service.

Where is it?

Ideally located as a touring base, our small town offers easy access to the cities of Edinburgh and Glasgow within half an hour and many other tourist attractions including Stirling Castle, Bannockburn, Linlithgow Palace, Falkirk Wheel, South Queensferry if you don't want to head into the cities. For teenagers, Ratho is 3 miles away with a large scale climing wall and adventure centre, and many other outdoor activities close by or indoor fun in the cities. Bus service is every half hour and local train station provides excellent service and is located within 7 minutes walking distance from the house. It takes only 20 mins to the centre of Scotland's thriving capital city where there are many attractions for all ages. Edinburgh and Glasgow both have winter festivals offering activities such as open air ice skating and fun fair. And a chance to celebrate a real Scottish Christmas and Hogmanay. Or in the summer the famous Edinburgh Festival and Tattoo
